I recently introduced myself to the world of MTH Scaletrax primarily because of the rather inexpensive costs and also for the tracks low profile. I have had numerous problems with the track specifically with their switches. I purchased (17) switches for my new layout and proceded to plan out and begin the electrical connecting of each switch. So far I have connected (11) switches and have had problems with four at the moment. In hindsight I should have inspected the switch component more closely before deciding on the scaletrax. In my opinion the switch control is a cheap plastic version of a switch. I have had three of them either lock in one direction or have the bottom of the center post snap off ( mind you I have been gentle as there are only plastic components throughout), and the in three cases because ofthe switch control locking in place the switch motor at the track melted in place. I spoke with the techs at MTH and they did agree that they are having problems with these same components. I am currently waiting to see whether MTH will make good onthe components. (4) switches at $40 and change adds up ). My question for anyone out there is this: is there a product I can use to replace the plastic version of the MTH scaletrax control box? The tech suggested a switch like a toggle that would have a centering function that would prevent the switch from locking in one way and as a result burning out the switch motor. The box has three wires ( one curve, one straight and one positive ) on one end and two wires ( one positive and one negative ) on the other. Does anyone know of a substitute I could use? and if so, could you elaborate on the exact wiring. I went to Radio Shack to explore today and the salesperson had no idea. Thanks for any help. Its a shame that MTH can't make a more durable switch for the $.
Thanks
