I was getting an 8 ohm reading but because the resistor was broken in two (and I have little experience with these smoke units) I wasn't sure if I should trust the reading.
Is it safe to assume that in MTH O guage there are only 2 smoke elements used - 16 ohm and 8 ohm ?
Yes, Only the single element small smoke units in some Steam switchers, small diesels, some electric use it. Hence the PS-2 3V boards that needed special flash boards so the single element was not over taxed with too much current. A regular PS-2 3V board should not be used as a replacement because of this issue. They used different code for smoke. G
