I too was very pleased with the "Sunset Limited" cars. And fortunately the sleeper did not have those duplex holes in the letterboard at the top. So I purchased three of the two car sleeper/diner sets. With some MicroScale decals I'll be able to replicate the "Audubon" diner, "French Quarter" lounge car, and "Pride of Texas" coffee shop/lounge car. And I've always wanted to paint the interior of a passenger car in "Sunset pink!" (A Railway Age article calls the interior color of the "French Quarter" lounge car "watermelon red" but my Southern Pacific Historical & Technical Society book on the Sunset Limited indicates the color on the railroad was known as "Sunset pink." There are also a number of color images of the car interiors in the book which will make accurate reproduction not that difficult.)
There is a very good site on the internet, http://www.streamlinerschedule...k9/sunset195008.html that also contains a link to the August 1950 issue of Railway Age with details the train and the color schemes for all the interior cars.
So with some work I have a reasonable facsimile of the last streamlined passenger train to be introduced in the United States (August 1950).
Let's hope in the future MTH will release the E8s in scarlet and gray to bring the Sunset into the mid 60s. And while they're at it, release the Premier SD45 and F7s in SP scarlet and gray as well.
