MTH switch problems

My MTH switches tend to fry when a loco derails on the switch. The small filement wire on the turnout section burns due to the derailment. Switches are powered via Aux I have been able to fix most by jumpering the burned filement with a small wire. There has to be a better solution. I am heavenly invested in MTH reaaltrax but the switches are utter crap. Would consider switching t o Ross but do not know if Ross will mate with realtrax. Anybody have the same problem and is there a reasonable solution other than ditching all the switches.

Sounds like you have an older transformer that doesn't kick off fast enough when a derailment occurs. I've had MTH switches for 15 years now and have never fried one. I use MTH's Z-4000 that kicks off faster than a speeding bullet.

If it's not transformer related, I'm not sure what else it would be. Hopefully others will chime in to help.

I use a Fast burning in line fuse between the aux power and the switches and have never lost an mth realtrax switch. Out of my 16 switches, only one has malfunctioned in the last 15years.
