I recently purchased a large collection, and included in that was a MTH set of Tinplate "Stephen Girard" 4-set of cars and 9E locomotive.

They are very nice, but the paint is clearly wrong on them. I can't tell if it is overspray or maybe more likely damage / fading from sunlight? They are identified as the two-tone green "contemporary" version, but a large part of each car (mostly one side) is blue like the Blue Comet, with the ends a fade inbetween.

See attached photos. I'm going to sell them and am just trying to gather info about this defect. I'm not really sure what these might command in this condition. Has anyone seen this before? I think these were made in China, so perhaps quality was an issue for them at some point.

Any ideas?

Ive seen this before with the cadet blue Ives 3245r as well as on the Apple green 408e, I believe the pigment  discolors from being in direct sunlight.  A person was selling the latest release LCT Warrior set, He mentioned that one side of the passenger cars paint was faded becasue they were in a dsplay window in direct sunlight.

Looks like some kind of paint error to me. Note that not only the body is blue, the roof is dark blue. And what's with that fragment of masking tape? I have a set of sun-faded Stephen Girard cars that I picked up cheap from an online auction. The paint is faded to very light green, not blue. I'm going to repaint them in a color scheme of my own design, if I ever get around to it. It's an enormous amount of work to take the things apart and remove all the trim so you can get them bead blasted.
