I recently aquired an MTH U50C. Product #20-2252-1. The smoke unit and lights are not working. Except for the beacon light on the top of the cab, which is working.  I pulled the shell off, checked the wiring for loose connectors or pinched or broken wires, but everything looked good. I also did a factory reset (via DCS), but this didn't solve any of the issues either. No noise from the smoke unit at all, and the wick looks fine (and yes, i made sure it was actually on) Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Chuck, you are correct about the setup. I made sure the springs were in propely, plastic wire connectors were in securely, and made sure the springs were touching the pads. I even shimmed the plastic sliding pieces that house the springs with celophane to make them a little tighter to be sure the were touching the pads. I fear i have a bigger problem here.

Chuck is correct - I have that engine exact same and it does have spring contacts.

I find that gently stretching the springs and ensuring that the spring blocks are as close to the bottom of the cab as possible will often restore lost lighting.

However, that will have nothing to do with the loss of smoke. For that, I would trace the 4 wires from the smoke unit back to the PS2 board (2 for the fan and 2 for the heater resistors) for either loose connections, or pinched or broken  wires.

One thing to note is to be very gentle with the cab. Your model has a cab that is prone to cracking if not handled with the proper amount of TLC. I had to have mine replaced because it started coming apart.

George, I did a feature reset and then a factory reset using DCS neither solved the problem. I do believe both couplers fire, but i will double check that. I'm begining to fear repair may be beyond my capabilities. Could be a job for you if you are interested. I also have an MTH  DAP Santa Fe decapod that is completely on the fritz! Several issues with that one!
