Just got a brand new mth wifi box today. My Tiu is brand new also with the usb port and latest software. Hooked up the wiu with the cable supplied. I am using the mth network. Opened the app it found my tiu ok. Went to add engine menu hit add mth engine it searched and the the screen read no new engines. I have only one engine on the track. All others have been removed. It will not find/add any engines. What is the problem?

Did you upgrade the WIU to 1.1?
As Mr. Muffin advised you in the post above mine, you must have both the app and the WIU firmware at version 1.1 or results will be poor.
You can get the firmware here.
Guys can you do this upgrade on an andriod phone?

No. You need to use a PC (or a Mac). Go to the link on the page that I indicated, download the instructions and the upgrade, and follow the instructions.
If you look on the WiFi box it should tell you if it has already been upgraded to 1.1. Might be worth a peek before you go and try to upgrade it. All the latest at my LHS are received as 1.1.
Even with the updates in place you may still have issues locating a locomotive. I experience this every time I use the app. Very frustrating.
Version 1.0 had considerable difficulties; I haven't experienced any problems in that regard with 1.1.
Send the WIU to us - we will test it; upgrade it and send it back..... if it's bad we will send you a new one already upgraded to 1.1 and we will deal with the warranty issue with MTH..... no charge.... this is too fun to not get you over the hump into running trains on you pad or smartphone.....

You really shouldn't - it should work great - are you using it on your home network? I would recommend not - use the built in network....
Pete,
If the app isn't working as well as your DCS Remote, and the app's version is compatible with your WIU's firmware, either you WIU has issues or there's quite likely something that's gone awry regarding your network connection.
I had to set mine to ignore my network with my computer. I forget how to explain that?
A few times when I powered up my old phone, it still would look for my router in the house. Once I unconnected that in the phone's wifi settings, the system worked great.
Hi All,
i have a situation where my iPad Pro will not find my PS2 engine but my iPhone will. Any suggestions on that? I have 2 PS3 engines and the iPad has no issues. Thanks!

Hmmm? I Pad has issues right? iPhone works?
What operating version is in each?
Is the phone older? Something about the latest versions causing grief.
Can you set the pad to only connect to the MTH DCS WIFI directly?
Sorry for the delayed response! I hadn't fully setup my layout for Christmas when I posted the question originally. All is setup now - I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 13.2.3. The iPad Pro 10.5" is running 13.2.3 as well. When I try to interrogate for engines, the first time it will tell me there are no engines. The second time I try to interrogate, I get a "There's no WIU/TIU attached" - I have double-checked the network multiple times, and it's connected to the MTH DCS Wifi network. Last year I was running a different iPhone - again, no problems. When I opened the app today on my new phone, all 3 of my engines showed up with no problem. I've tried deleting the app on my iPad and reinstalling to no avail. It will find my PS3 engines (I think - I haven't tried those yet, but it has worked without issue in the past). But this PS2 engine isn't having any luck. Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
Will it run the Proto 3 engines with the PS2 engine on the track? There is a good reason I have asked this question.

I'd like to state that for me, having a signal strength issue can cause weird things with the app. I wish it would state that there's a signal issue instead of saying "no TIU found" ! The worse thing about DCS for me are those generic messages that don't tell you the exact problem. You have to learn that they just tell you something is wrong, not where exactly.
You can test this on your system by getting a single engine on a track with good signal strength running well and then adding an offending piece that wrecks the signal. You may (should) start seeing those messages on the app pop up. I've even had issues caused by engines with dying batteries. Once you find the exact problem, seeing those messages will make better sense.
Using the app can be a much better experience. It adds, finds, and does other things faster than the remote. It is so much easier to name something for example. Also, You don't need to scroll thru an entire engine list using a clumsy thumbwheel to get the desired engine. I have a lot of engines so it's a big thing here. For us that got used to the remote first, switching to the app is tougher. Things must be done methodically so not to cause other issues. Like powering off the TIU before the controlling device. That can lead to it reverting to the house's router instead of the MTH network. That probably is different on each device?
I can't help but wonder why so many posters have issues and others don't. There was a very recent problem with the latest IOS version only that seemed to confuse the issues and the cure. It makes it tougher to diagnose the problem. So eliminating things has to be done properly and orderly to narrow down where the problem is exactly. I don't use IOS devices. I can't help a lot with them other than what I've seen on my Android versions.
I appreciate all the feedback - I need to get the other engines out tomorrow and test it - I didn't have time this evening to get it all out as I was troubleshooting low track voltage issues (which I have resolved and didn't solve the problem).
On another note, it's interesting the comment about the battery. I'm wondering if the battery has some problems as my engine is from 2008, and I've never replaced it. It seems to lag at times on the track, though it never loses its connection with my iPhone, and it never stops running. I was already thinking about replacing the battery anyway, so I will try that and see what happens... it'll be a few days before I can do that as I'll need to order one.
why don't you try plugging In your engine to the mth charger and leave it over night. then try the test sounds and see how long the sounds should stay, on should around 10 seconds if so the battery is ok! also with ps2 3 volt engines the red connector on the z4000 must be on the center rail or ps 2 3 volt engines wont work ps3 the polarity does not matter!

I would replace that old battery no matter what. It is 11 years old!
