Hello,
Now that everyone is getting in there MTH WTIU’s in from MTH I was wondering what the general consensus is on the product. My original TIU is still going strong and was wondering whether it was worth investing in the newer system.
thanks

I've never had the previous TIU but my understanding is that there is no need to upgrade unless your TIU is broken, they do the same thing. In fact with the new unit you can only use the app not a remote. I would imagine in the future there might be more differences as they add more functionality but right now I don't think and upgrade is required.
I cant believe i paid nearly $500 to get the WTIU, then the DCS app is requiring me to purchase an upgraded in app-service too access all the train sounds???? seriously??? Not only that, but the WTIU connection is constantly dropping, forcing me to go into reboot and do whatever I can to ensure it has a stable connection, despite my router being right next to it. Im seriously disgusted that they are trying to take more money by making spend another $30 on the app just to access all the sounds that should already be available when your purchase the TIU. Unbelievable.
Sorry you are having problems mine works flawlessly. i installed it, it updated i loaded my engines and ran my trains.
I only paid $ 359.00.
The range has never dropped, i even walked out to the garage about 125 ft and still no problem , i decided to connect a cat 5 cable to my router and i like that because i am still connected to my home system and the range on it exceeds my property limits.
i was concerned about liking the app but after a brief period to adjust i have to say i like the app over the remote. i will still get the USB adapter when it becomes available but probably will not use it .
So far the only downside is the 2 minute bootup time
( more of a " get use to it" rather than a downside thing )
I want to love the WTIU. I just got mine in December and I had some trouble setting it up (my fault). Now I have it working and when it works it is great. The biggest problem is that the App freezes and that is not cool when your trains are running. Yes I have crashed. I am trying to figure out the problem and have connected the WTIU to my cat 5 wired internet. That connection seems solid. It seems that the problem is I am running the App on my phone. This is the only app that freezes so I think it should work. I just can't figure out how to fix it at this point. I am thinking about buying a dedicated Android tablet. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem or tablets to buy?
Thanks,
John
I bought a refurbished iPad mini off Amazon for cheap and that seems to work great as a dedicated device for the WTIU and Base3.
I've been running the DCS app just fine on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 32 GB WiFi Tablet Black (2019).
