I Have a Questionn about the Lionel 180 Watt Powerhouse

I am Looking for a Controller to use for a layout in conventional mode with the Lionel 180 Powerhouse

Can i Use a Mth Z Controller or will the powerhouse burn it out

What other options are out there that are simular to the MTH Z Controller ?

Yes, the PH180 will work fine with the Z Controller. The PH180 will not burn it out in running conventional trains with currents in the maximum 5 amp range. The PH180 produces the same output voltage as the Z1000 brick that is normally paired with the Z Controller.

Dallee makes a manual controller similar in function to the Z Controller but it is very expensive.

The other option for conventional operation is to use a Lionel PowerMaster with the PH180. You can then change the output voltage using a Lionel Command Remote device.

Prentice,

Lionel's highest-powered version of a two-piece transformer is its GW-180 (6-37947), which is a Powerhouse (PH-180) plus a control unit:

Apparently you already have the PH-180.  Occasionally the control units will show up on eBay or at other auctions.  You might look for one to add to your brick.  Be careful though because Lionel's low-powered one-piece transformers, e.g. CW-80's, look very much like this control unit and don't use the PH-180 as their brick.
