I've been providing results for MTHRD's benefit over on the thread "Wi-Fi DCS Update from MTH"  Last night's results are over there.  I was using a Samsung S6 smartphone (running Android 5.1.1) last night, and it wouldn't read any locos on TIU#2, which is connected to the master wifi.  This morning, I tried a Samsung Note 10.1 tablet running 4.1.2, and it immediately read all 25 locos on the layout.  Tried the S6 and it only picked up the locos on TIU#1 (slave WIU).  Read a second time and all were inactive.  Tried a 3rd time, and all came in.  Cannot understand the reason for the inconsistency.

Adding locos has been spotty.  Often the device will find the loco (ID# shows), and then do nothing.  Other times an interrogation fails.

Reason I started this new thread is to surface the experience others are having when using 2 TIUs.  Hopefully, the new firmware will cure reading issues, but unfortunately the beta testers (or at least two of them to whom I've spoken), only have 1 wifi.

Unlike other persons, I find the E-stop button works instantly.

I should add everything works fine with the remotes.

I am running 2 MTH WIU and a Lionel LCS.   When I first got my MTH WIU, I added them to my older wireless routers for my home network.   The response time was iffy and sometimes I could not get the engine read on one my 2nd WIU to read.   I really saw an issue when hosting people at my house.  Sometime, one of my devices could not find the WIU or the LCS.  I had to reset the device.   Sometimes when I switched from the MTH APP to the LCS or another app, I would have issues.   I also had issues trying where I could read engine on wiu1, but not WIU2.   Sometime WIU2 engines read, but not WIU1.    FYI, My tracks between TIU ./ WIU do not connect with each other.  An engine cannot be running and go from TIU1 to TIU2.

In order to get back to consistent operation,  I tried using 1 WIU on the MTH network and added the 2nd WIU to the first WIU.   The LCS ran on its own network as well.  It worked very well and I had excellent response times.    I did this for a week and could read engines on my layout from either WIU without issues or delays.   However, I did want to use LCS / DCS on the same device without switching networks.  I did try adding LCS to the Lionel WIU.  It added, but I could not read the LCS on all my devices.

After a week of trying the MTH network and separate Lionel network, I added them to my newer home router which replaced my older home network router.  Response times and the connections are faster than my previous router.   I can now use both MTH and LCS on the same device without switching networks.  Also, my phone is used to control the accent lighting through the home network which works well.   When I switch between apps on my device, I do not have to read the MTH app and the Lionel connection is still active. I can read the new MTH engines without the issues I had before.  Best of all, I can run my MTH engines and not worry with WIU is working to read them.

RJR,  I do not know if the new version of software will improve the reading of both devices or if the firmware is going to fix your issue.   My issues were worse when running on one of my home routers.  Did you try your devices running this on the MTH network with 1 WIU linked to the 2nd one.   This could help eliminate if there are other issues on the network.

Dave & Chris, I'm curious.  Are you using android or apple?  I know the two beta testers above used apple, and I'm starting to wonder if the android app was adequately tested.  I am finding substantial differences in operation between 3 versions of android, the oldest seeming to work adequately, the newest not quite, and the middle one very poorly.

Chris, I am using the MTH network.  Seemed to work more reliably than the home network.  I am not running Lionel.  Thanks for the description.

I am back to things not working again.  One wiu will 'time out' when fixed two is powered up. I switched channels and get the same result.

I am losing my engines as they cross from one TIU/WIU zone to the next.

In the past both TIU lights on both WIUs would flash when a command was entered.

Back to remotes for today

Dave

"time out" must be an apple thing.  Losing a loco when you cross from one WIU area to the other is to be expected, since there's no super tiu mode yet.  Best keep a remote fired up and handy, because a read, which will restore control, could lose locos and really leave you in a fix.

My tablet was working fine this morning, but I switched to the remotes to enjoy running trains.

I find the blue lights flicker when executing commands.
