Hello everyone,

Today was a great day, my father who started me with trains when I was a kid received his new layout today. He had a layout quite a few years back, which he stopped using. He told me to dismantle it and sell everything off, so that's what I did. The past few months he kept on saying to me boy I wish I had the layout back, with having no time to build him a new layout, I was keeping my eye's open to see if anything came available.

About two weeks ago fellow forum member Steve (LI TRAIN ) had posted just the perfect size layout I was looking for, I sent him an email, we talked a bit then we finalized the deal. So today Steve and a few of the members from TMB Model Train club in Long Island delivered the layout, and set it all up. Steve and his crew were a great bunch of guys, very respectful and very neat. While setting up the layout we had a few nice conversations about trains, after about 2 hours the layout was up and running. A big thank you to Steve and the TMB Model Train Club for putting a huge smile on my father's face.

Here's a video and a few photo's, thanks for looking.

Alex

Thanks again and hope dad gets many years of enjoyment from the layout.  A real pleasure to meet your parents. A lot went into building the layout and we are all glad it found a nice home!!

Some history on the layout:

Two year ago our club was contacted by the Planting Fields Arboretum which is a park in the New York State park system. We built the layout to the Park Specifications and it was on exhibit for the four month summer season. At the end of the season the layout was returned to the club.

The grounds of the park were donated by the Rogers and Coe family's which were the founders of the Virginian Railway.  Each year the park has a dedicated theme and for 2013 the theme was dedicated to the Virginian railway. To say the least it was successful drawing several thousand visitors on most weeks. If you can get to the north shore of Long Island plan on seeing this park because the mansion and gardens are something to behold and will given a glimpse of how a real Railroad Barron lived, (at least in their summer home)

The layout comes apart into three pieces and all the scenery, especialy the mountain are all removeable

This is another wonderful reason why the OGR Forum is so valuable. Looks like the layout is a perfect fit for your parent's home. I was very impressed that the members of the club delivered it and got the layout ready to run.

Thanks for sharing this great story with all of us.
