My First MTH Product-CN Jordan Spreader

I'm curious - you said that you have "stayed away from MTH...refusing to pay mega bucks for  a model", implying that you have other manufacturers' items. 

I'm not pushing nor bashing MTH - I love their stuff, though I lean towards others' 

locos because of the TMCC/etc operating system - but MTH is no more expensive than

Lionel, Atlas, K-line, and certainly typically less than 3rd Rail.

So, again, how is MTH more "mega-priced" than the others? They all do the 

Big Bucks thing.

The Jordan spreader is very nice, BTW. 

I was going to ask the same question.  I haven't found MTH to be a "mega bucks" line at all.  If it was, I likely wouldn't have a fraction of the MTH trains I already have.  Most everything I have from MTH has been a very good value for the price, and certainly not what I would regard as overpriced by any standard.

I guess he hasn't priced Atlas, must be buying Williams.

A lot of the MTH Protosound locomotives from the mid-late 90's are fairly affordable now.

You will have to find a CN Diesel-electric Locomotive to push the Jordan Spreader.

New or used.

Take photographs of that in a snow white scene.

I got into O 3 rail, bailing on HO, because how cheap MTH was! When a co-worker brought in his then new MTH RK N&W 611 J and told me it was $299....I went out and got one the next day....never looked back. A Lionel J was not as nice and cost more.....today I do not think there is a brand I DO NOT own!!!

I have run almost all my MTH Rail King cars and locos on O-27 under our Christmas tree. My MTH RK Dreyfus must have traveled an actual 200 miles one year.....all on O-27 track and switches. The RK Big Boy and other BIG locos may struggle on O-27....but most everything else works fine. MTH says O-31 because they do not make O-27 track.

In the early days of the MTH RK passenger cars, they were advertised as being able to negotiate 0-27 curves. That was shown right on the front of the box as I recall.

I only run Railking pieces, all will run on 0-27 but not all will like it. My C&O Hudson will do it but binds a bit...mostly due to the flanges and tight curve. My Y6B Imperial will also do it but has a tendency to lift the tender off the rails. My Imperial PRR K4 glides through 0-27 curves. Before I upgraded to the MTH Railking 60' PRR cars, I ran Lionel 0-27 cars with it and it looked great on 0-27 and ran great as well. I've got an 0-42 and 0-27 loop...big steamers stay on the outside 0-42 with passenger trains (and the Y6B coal train). My 0-27 freight loop, including yard, is handled by my MTH Railking Scale SW1 and B&O B6 0-6-0 which run fine. I think all MTH Railking diesels will run on 0-27 and the majority of steam will.
