bbsfdl60,
I just found this thread. Nice work! I saw that wall and said, I know where it's from!
I'm going to presume that since you live in Scranton, that you get down to the ATMA train meets in November and February at the Allentown Fairgrounds. If you do come to the next one, be sure to swing by the HiRail layout on the west side of the hall and introduce yourself! There are a couple of us that know a bit about the the E-L and Scranton in general, and we would love to talk with you.

Sounds Good, thanks for the compliments
What did you use to make your trees along the wall and top of slopes?
mike the trees are pillow stuffing, ripped into balls of various sizes, spray paint and woodland scenics ground cover. fairly cheap way to do it..
Nice work, like the the burning switch tower. What kind of camera are you using for your photos. Nick
I use a Nikon D80
I want to thank everyone for your compliments, I am truly humbled by the encouragement of my peers.
Your trackwork/ballasting came out great as did the entire layout. Congratulations!

Erie, not Eerie
Great layout! I assume it contains some DL&W-only trains since Erie Lackawanna only existed between 1960-1976.
Absolutely beautiful layout Love it. And its not that I like the EL or anything
Good grief man!...Now that is a collection...now lets get to the meat of the matter, what is your favorite road? Very nice.
Very nice. I would like to see some more photos of the freight yard? The photos here provide only a glimpse.

I have a mix of Erie, Lackawanna, EL it gives me poetic license
I have spent the last 10 years slowly building it and dreaming of what I wanted it to look like and how I wanted it to operate. It is about 80% complete, there are still little details I will always be adding, but for the major part it is almost there.
. . . And its not that I like the EL or anything . . .

Did you notice the drool marks on the glass of the case? I did that when I was looking at a "little" layout in Patterson!
Beautiful layout! Thanks for sharing!
You were looking for suggestions. I have only one for you.
Keep the photos coming!!! You have done a first rate job. Really cool!
Thanks for taking the time to share your layout with us.
Thanks.... I sent you an email, I look forward to talking with you
Bill
Just looked at your progress photo's, great work

this is a test, I am trying to make videos of the layout. Hopefully you will see the phoebe snow on a curve, and not a video of my awkward teenage years.

What can I say that hasn't been said already!!! Fantastic craftsmanship, beautiful layout. We need more pictures & a longer video.
if you ever want any help, let me know. 1 hour south of scranton down the pike.
need more DL&W trains......
looks great, keep up the good work....
exceptional, well done
If my layout turns 1/10 as good as that, I'll be happy. You obviously put a lot of thought into this and the result is fantastic.
Wow! Your ground cover is exceptionally realistic. I love the scene with the crane car, camelback in B&W, and the roundhouse nestled at the foot of a curve. I grew up in Penna and it's always good to see someone represent!
Nicely done. Especially like the burned-down roundhouse.
Ok had time to try to put videos I made up, they are my first attempts and hopefully more will follow.
Thank you all for your comments, I am glad you my peers are enjoying my layout
Here is a view from the station platform of the Phoebe Snow passing by
EL FM Trainmaster pulling a short local passenger
Phoebe Snow passing under a non operational signal that crews are fixing
After a special excursion is done, 1024 backs off the turntable for a rest
DL&W RS-3 912 pulling cars out of the yard and heading to the junction up to the station
Same train heading into the tunnel on the junction
NYO&W mohawk waiting on the siding while FM Trainmaster passes the station
A kind of all around view of the layout, don't mind the mess, still much to do
Hello all, I hope this is the right place to post this, I wanted to share photos of my hi-rail layout. This is my first layout of this type, my previous one was built when I was a teenager this is going to be my last. I have spent the last 10 years slowly building it and dreaming of what I wanted it to look like and how I wanted it to operate. It is about 80% complete, there are still little details I will always be adding, but for the major part it is almost there. There is a working turntable, classification yard, a station complex and industries with sidings (Scrap yard with Gantry Crane, Brewery, Cabinet Factory, and lumber mill). I used Atlas track for the visible sections and tubular for the hidden. The layout is a dogbone style, and has an interconnection track hidden to connect the lower section to the upper main line. MTH DSC is used to control the layout. There is only one piece of the layout I can not find a spot for and will have to omit is a large coal breaker with sidings for cars.
I am modeling the spring of 1961, the Erie and the DL&W have been merged since the past September, and the variety of paint schemes is still evident on the line. The a new one stall engine house has been erected on the grounds where the roundhouse stood, it was destroyed by fire years ago and a portion is still standing, (In Scranton where I live the roundhouse did burn in the early part of the 20th century and many engines were destroyed, the railroad did leave and use the sections for a time until a new roundhouse was constructed.) The D&H and NYO&W still make stops to the yard and have trackage rights from time to time, A DL&W Camelback has been preserved and is used on special occasions, but sadly there is no money to restore #565 (which rests in Steamtown in Scranton ) it needs an upgrade to this new PS2 drive system and is on the back burner but it is saved from the torch.
I am always learning so please if there are any tips, suggestions please pass it along..
What can I say that hasn't been said already!!! Fantastic craftsmanship, beautiful layout. We need more pictures & a longer video.
And I need a full-blown feature for the magazine so this excellent work can be shared with thousands of more hobbyists.

Mr. Miller, I am humbled.
I am working to finish the last section where the city is. Then a little work in the basement and I will take you up on it.
thank you again
In my literary fantasy of my layout's life.....actually it is the first time I had a friend visit with his engines and we run my layout. So with some pictures snapped I put this story together ....enjoy
The EL had two visiting engines this week, A Virginian Triplex and Erie Decapod. They were here and pulled s few special excursion trains along the line
**the Triplex as it is on its way to the station
** the Triplex pulling its first excursion of the week, it is approaching a signal bridge which is down for repairs so it must go through with speed restrictions, there is a EL crew on hand but they can't seem to fix the issue.
** now we can see it as it passes under the signal, what a sight it must be from above
** the Triplex seen here at a breakneck speed of 20 mph, the Triplex is not know as a speedy engine, but I don't think any of the passengers will complain
** a final view of the Triplex as it passes by this lucky photographer
** the privately Erie Decapod waits at the station for passengers to load, this engine will be pulling six well maintained DL&W coaches, the little passengers will enjoy a faster paced ride behind this stunning horse.
** here we see the Decapod approaching the same non functioning signal, the EL crew is apparently completely stumped by the problem, Once past she will get up to speed for the trip.
** no past the signal, the special is building steam. The train will eventually pass a spectacular curve overlooking the engine area then onto their destination, which is a charity golf tournament , can you imagine how small the golf balls and tees would be in oscale?
** it is late in the train is coming past the station, there is a problem with the switch which leads into the area, a crew is scheduled to fix it tomorrow. so the train will need to back into the track
**before the Decapod left, the president of the EL and the neighboring NYO&W chartered a private excursion pulled by O&W coaches. Seen here coming out of a tunnel were a small hobo village resides on the other side of the trees. The residents were impressed but not too happy, they were having an intense game of horseshoes and as the train signaled out of the tunnel Crazy Stan threw his shoe and hit Plumber Joe, a fight resulted and both were disqualified. Later neither recalled the incident on account of the amount of moonshine they drank during the game.
** the train pulls into the yard and will remain here until its owner Eddie comes, in the meantime the presidents were soo pleased they agreed to give the engine some repairs on the house
Incredible layout and amazing photography! Well done!
