I am guessing that you are modeling the old yard off of Mill St, I think the roundhouse burned in the early 50s or so. Given the age of the turn table, it was most likely a stone lined pit, and is probably still there under the dirt.
I initially missed your post about the round house burning in the 20s. Can you post the photos?
I do not have any right at my disposal, I need to look through my fathers collection for the articles. I do recall that the railroad was pulling out steam engines while the firefighters were fighting the fire. I will see what I can find when I have time
I have not done a lot on the layout.. but enough to make some progress. First you will see my most recent and now favorite engines.. MTH Premier.. E8 .. that I had custom painted in the transition era scheme that the Erie Lackawanna used post merger. In the pictures you can also see the background buildings which really look great I think. Also there are two custom coal cars that I got.
Very nice, I like what you did for the background with the hills and trees. Great job on the E8 too. It has been fun looking over this thread since 20212, time goes by fast. Nick T

Scroll up I have been posting on and off for a year or so
I h ad just spent the last 20 minutes reading this thread, when I first saw it I hadn't realized that this has been going on for so long. Nice layout and excellent modeling. Nick T
Cape Cod Northern posted:Very impressive work. Wonder why we have not seen it before? I grew up in Passaic, NJ were the Lackawana had a double track mainline running right down Maine Street. It was ripped up and turned into parking lots while I was in high school. Sad day. Passaic went down hill from then on.
Cape Cod Northern,
i grew up in Passaic NJ too. I remember them tearing up the tracks in downtown along Main Street as well as the caboose that was pushed over the siding bumper at the viaduct on Broadway.

You have a great layout. I love specific RR themed layouts - it looks really fun!
I haven't put any videos on in while. so I took some time to make a couple. Hope you all enjoy.
Very nicely done. You are modeling an interesting era in northeast railroading.

Thanks Tom, i like that era because there is some flexibility with each of the railroads.. with some creative license of course
Here are two more videos .. one showing a trip East and one West on my layout. Hope you all enjoy
Very nice. Thank you for sharing!
Its been a while since i posted any updates, not much has been done since last update, I hope to spend this cold season finishing the few items left. One update worth sharing is the addition of a new engine to the fleet.
Here is the story as it goes in my little world.
The shops that sit in the valley just below MacDonald Hill received a 4-6-2 Baldwin pacific (MTH PS2 Premier UP 4-6-2 ) that was slated for the torch, found on a dead line on the Union Pacific. Turns out this was a former DL&W piece. In the spirit of preserving the past the decision was made to save the pacific, bring it back to home rails and restore it. It will join the #1024 Camelback in the EL Heritage Fleet. Original drawings were found in storage at the Scranton Station offices, some changes were made by the UP which had to be corrected. The bell was moved to the front of the boiler so that had to be put back. Once in the shop it was found that the engine had had some sort of a minor wreck and the running boards on the boiler needed repair. More troubling was the condition of the boiler ( PS2 board) it was cooked, no way it would ever build steam ( or stop tripping the breaker on the z4k) , a top to bottom rebuild was necessary. Modern advances in technology ( PS3 board) will make sure that this old girl will have a long life. Now joining the EL Heritage Fleet #1137 will pull original DL&W coaches on the Lackawanna Limited.
Was playing around with a engine I just rebuilt for a friend. I shot this video so he could see the completed engine. Thought i would share it.
Good lookin RR!

Wow, nice layout! I live next to an old Erie Lackawanna Line (Now NJT's Main Line) and I gotta say, you've nailed the look!
Enjoyed your video - the 4 chuffs be revolution sure sounded good to me! BTW, what is the curve diameter on the layout if you don't mind. O-54 or so perhaps?
Kick *** layout!

My son and I we running trains before the superbowl.
Well done!

Very nice trains, layout, and video!!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Nice layout, hadn't seen this before. Do you run any of the Lackawanna MU's aka the Green Giants that as kids we loved but as adults groaned at? Didn't see any catenary, but to me can't have the lackawanna without them *lol*.

I live in Scranton Pa, there is no catenary on the Lackawanna around here. The only time the MU's made their way here was for a repair on rare occasion.
Nice video. It looks like you have a very busy fire department around those parts.

Sensational!
Terrific trains, structures and scenery, and a very exciting and well produced video.
There are so many fires pouring out smoke on this layout. I see from the profile of bbsfd160 that he was a fireman.
I hold firemen and other first responders in the highest regard.

One more thing: modeling the Erie Lackawana is a great idea. That is one of my favorite railroads.

Catenary that provides power to electric engines that run well on a layout may be the most challenging modeling project of all.
Just playing around last night with the camera. Hope you enjoy
Very nice video, layout, and engines!!

Nice video... thanks for sharing. I’ve lived in NEPA for 23 years - I have a set of Erie E8’s, but still haven’t managed to get an EL engine in that beautiful gray/maroon/gold livery. Looks like I’ll have to keep my eyes out for a colorful diesel.
Really nice!

I had the E8's custom painted.
