Everyone has there favorite train, engine, rolling stock or accessory on there layout.  I have always been interested in model trains since I was a young child.  After years of planning and observing and finally building my own layout I found one locomotive that just floored me.  I remembered it from when I was young and seeing it out and about on Long Island.  I recently acquired my "holy grail".  To say that I won't have any more favorites or must haves are unrealistic especially in this hobby but for now my collection is complete.

As noted above, this uncataloged engine was a Nassau Hobby exclusive. Based on memory only (I am not presently at home), I believe, was offered with two different powered unit cab numbers, #258 and 261. I have cab number 261. The non powered unit which does have operating headlights, has cab number 266.

JJMMagoo,

Are you sure yours is the MTH Premier that was offered by Nassau Hobby. Yours has cab number 269, which I don't think was a cab number offered by NH. Moreover, your unit says Long Island on the side, and I am very certain that the one I have does not  state a  railroad name. It's possible you could have added a decal to it as some who purchased it had that done.

This is an interesting situation.  May be Charlienassau can shed some light on this.

You are correct sun-rise.  I also have a MP-15 from Nassau hobbies and these two engines are the pride of my fleet.  This is from MTH catalog number 20-2226-1.
I now have three locomotives all from MTH and are with the Long Island Railroad.  My kids are ecstatic!

Charlie if I remember about a year you had one left and I was about to pull the trigger and someone else swooped in and purchased your last red wave.  I have been on the hunt since.  A few have shown up on eBay and I just decided I can't wait anymore.  Really happy with this engine!

Thanks everyone!!!

This is the PS1 version. A great find indeed! It has the correct MTA logo, and striping. The NH one has PS2 and correctly omits the dynamic brake blister and "Long Island" on the side (which I prefer it having - even if not on the prototype), but no MTA logo and thin black lines (not on the prototype) separating the stripes. The blue wave that NH did was almost perfect as the MTA logo (easily remedied with a decal) was the only thing noticeably different (to me, anyway) from the prototype. I also remember the blue wave more vividly as they phased out the red, white, and blue scheme when I was a little kid. However, the red stripe does make it much more eye-catching. K-line made it in both conventional and with TMCC, they are very nice looking engines, and also becoming difficult to come by.

Congrats on your new engine JJMMagoo! Definitely one of my favorites!

I saw this model on the layout of the NLOE and I was blown away.  Since than I searched and had no idea what I was looking for.  Now that I have accumulated some knowledge and a fan of MTH I had to jump on this.  I think the version Nassau Hobby came out with recently was going my fall back but it sold out by the time I had the funds.  Thank you everyone for all your kind words.  Now I need to expand my layout!  Haha

imageimageimageBeen a few weeks since getting some engine time.  I created a lashup today using my 2 favorite engines.  In between the lash up is a track cleaning car I purchased at a train show.  So in essence doing a little MOW work.  Merry Christmas everyone.  Big plans coming for my layout.  Rewiring of the rats nest underneath, possible expansion, and the addition of the DCS wifi.  My love for this hobby is always there, just finding the time is tough.

That's the best MOW train I've ever seen! Love it!

Did you add the MTA 'pac-man' decals to the MP15? Where did you get them? They look perfect!

-Tom

Hey Tom, I actually got them off eBay.  Someone on OgR had a link and I ordered them.  And thank you!

I don't normally act like this with two engines.  It's been a few weeks since I was running them.  It felt good. I really like them.  The layout is slowly morphing into an all Long Island fleet.

Thank you for the kind words and Merry Christmas!
