I wasn't able to make the 11 hour drive to Weaver's closing sale, but I was able to place one last order with them before they closed. That shipment arrived today. I'm thrilled to have some new trains, but sad that these will be the last to come from that great little train maker in Northumberland, PA. I'm sure that somebody somewhere will snatch up the tooling and we'll see Weaver's products made again in some fashion, but it won't be same as I'm sure those models will come from China (but who knows, maybe we'll get lucky). At least Minuteman Models is saving ScaleCoat paints. Anyway, thought I'd share the unboxing of my last package from Weaver Models....

I placed my "final" Weaver order and in it bought some Milwaukee Road ribside boxcars and threw in an H30 hopper.  I liked it so much I called back and ordered my second "final" Weaver order of several more H30 hoppers in the various road names and colors.  They were released at $72 but they were selling them for $40.  In my opinion they are great cars for the money.

 

I chased down some wagontop boxcars of late that I am excited to own.  If in fact someone bought their tooling I would be excited to buy more of those.  Nice cars.  Really nice...

 

I will definitely miss Weaver.  Thanks for the post.

The H30's were made in China, as were the B&O wagon tops. Joe gave me an H30 in appreciation for filling in for Paul Fischer at one of the manufacturers' presentations. Weaver products will again be available under a new yet to be announced name, and will be made in the USA.

Thats good news, hope the wood chip hoppers are in the new companies plan.
