My lay out isn’t as sophisticated as a lot of posts on the forum. It’s an L shape , each L is 17 feet on outer edge and 8 feet wide. Outside loop has all 72 curves. Inside route

WELCOME TO OGR RON!!!!! Great Layout!!!! and, Great Video!!!!!
Thank you Dennis
That’s a very fine looking layout! And you have some very cool rolling stock and locomotives too. Thank you for sharing!
Nicely done!
Peter
Thank you WRW and Peter
Ron, really neat layout. Thanks for posting your video. Like the way your town is laid out too.
Tom
Really nice layout. Would highly suggest that you reshoot it in the horizontal position. Many here watch on a computer with the traditional TV/Monitor and a vertical video does not come across very well - lots of blank screen! LOL Thanks
Nice!!! Any chance of seeing a track plan?

Same question, I have a similar mountain with a high and low tunnel and would love to see a track plan of your layout
Nice video and nice layout. I like the inside route. Welcome to the forum!
Thank you all. I did a track plan way back in 2001 and did it with a grid by hand, so it is not computer generated, other wise I would of posted it., it's not neat an professional like the ones I see posted. I hear some of you say the video did not come out well, I will redo the video soon.
Ron,
Nothing at all wrong with the video, it looks as though you have a good assortment of routes for your trains. Fantastic!
When I did my layout it was something worked out on paper, than trial and error on the framing, don't be ashamed if the track plan does not look professional, many don't but they work.
Ray
Thanks Ray.
Great looking layout, and lots of possibilities for running.
Very nice job. I like the way you did not let the mill edges of the plywood limit your track right of way. You simply spliced on extensions. I had to do that on almost every edge of my layout.
Your presentation is very neat, clean and orderly. Nice choice of ground cover and ballast. Running streets at an angle makes for a more realistic setting. Your R.O.N. track planning grid system really paid off ! (many of us just wing it)
If you reshoot the video please consider a horizontal landscape view.
The outside loop has all 72 curves, the inside loops have 54 and 72 curves. The inside tracks have like three or four different routes, two different figure eights, oval etc after the train goes around the total route it reverses direction. I have a Ross double cross over coming for out side loupe.
Nice, hope you post more pic's
Wow, that's quite the setup. Impressive!
Thanks all
I think your layout looks great, every bit as sophisticated as one designed on a pc. I don't have computer skills that allow me to design a layout on a computer, and I designed mine using the old fashioned drafting tools (pencil, compass, sqaure, ruler and protracor). The same way I drew the plans for my house which was designed to fit the lot we purchased, a pie shaped house to fit on a pie shaped lot. So I had to work with walls that were not sqaure to make mine work. As I said your layout looks great and operates great what else could you want.

Even though I used a layout program, that doesn't change what you end up with, it's just easier to shuffle things while you're planing if you're doing it electronically. Nothing at all wrong with doing it on paper or even just shuffling track around on your benchwork.
Very nice layout! Thanks for sharing.

Ron - Wonderful layout!! Well done!! I love your track plan
I agree with C. Sam regarding reshooting your layout video using your cell phone in horizontal position. Doing so will allow more of your layout into the frame.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Ron
Welcome to the forum. I love your layout, great job and lots of action. I too drew up my plan on paper, using Xerox copies of the major track and making several alternations to come up with the final plan over 44 years ago. One great thing about OGR forum is the wide variety of different types of modeling giving lots chance to see what others are doing.
Your layout has several similarities to mine with an L shape, mountain in the corner, multiple loops and figure 8s. Yours is much bigger at 17 long. has bigger curves and much more scale like and realistic . Mine is 11 feet long, has a oval and figure 8, Wye, dog bone and is 027 and a toy layout with $10 homemade turn table. I also added some track hanging over the layout edge, hidden by the back ground.
You may enjoy seeing its write up at the OGR post below.

Welcome to the forum!! Your trackwork is awesome! How did you go about planning that?
Very nice, who made your buildings?
Beautiful thanks for sharing 👍😊
Your layout looks great! Thanks for sharing with us!

Lot of buildings are Lionel, woodland scenics and other misc. track plan was just looking at a bunch of very old plans and other track plans and kind of just kept trying to take all the ideas and put them together. Thanks for all the replies.
I agree that really all you need to plan a layout is 1/4” scale and a sharp pencil. I always bought enough curves, the switches I needed and long straights I cut to fit and knocked it together. I think some guys over obsess with the track planning software. That said, nice layout, I like it!
Cool, thanks William.
