Well that was fun.  Down she comes. I knew this all along as I knew we would be moving this year. Bought our forever house. New house’s train room will be a bit smaller so I’m going to....... gasp....... switch to HO. However, we have a great speak easy bar planned for the downstairs with an o gauge loop around the ceiling. Going to set up grandfathers pre and post war stuff at Xmas as originally planned. This was a ton of fun, enjoyed learning scenery techniques, wiring blocks and such and just sitting back and running trains! It was always the talk of the house.  Not really sad about this at all, and it was fun to share it all of you! Most layouts are never “finished” but I can say I definitely finished this one!  On to the next chapter! Christmas 2022 I’ll share what we create..... for now out comes the saws all!!!!!C75F043D-8D14-4851-878A-2AB8EA3406808642D128-3406-431F-938B-433A0DBA665C

Haha right! Actually the house is quite a bit bigger but train room is smaller. In this house I took over the basement lounge with the layout, new house will retain the lounge and train room will be separate. I think the room is 8x16. Anyways the good news is the o gauge fun will continue. Plus I’m still going to run stuff at the modular club anthracite HiRailers. Looking forward to staying involved with them and maybe building a module using my coal breaker scene with hoppers.

HO - nooooooo!  Say it ain't so.  We need to talk you back from that ledge.

Nothing against HO, but I think you'll find that the space requirements aren't that much less due to the need for relatively wider radius curves.  HO equipment no longer offers the big cost advantage that it once had.

Best of luck with the new house.

Chris, I’m so bummed I never made it up! Between going on vacation, the passing of my dog, Atv repair, and just getting the yard all up to expectations, I’ve simply been beyond occupied.
I’m just throwing this suggestion out there, build an outbuilding like a big shed or garage and have that as your train room. I’m glad you’re keeping your coal train. That coal mine of yours is really nice too. Looking forward to seeing whatever you decide on.

Ooookay!  Ben awhile since I posted on here. We moved into our new house a year and a half ago. Got an HO layout started in the spare room downstairs, but. It’s that time of year! We had too much going on to set something up last year and was debating on what to do this year. Single loop around the tree..,… when the wife said she misses the trains and we don’t use the dining room soooo….. up came the 5x8 original table! We painted it white to get it ready for a dedicated Christmas layout. Found a Diamond in the stuff from my grandpa and always wanted to use that, so here’s the track plan. Will be good for 2 trains and the trolley. Oh, and yes, the great fence and all nostalgia will be included in this years Christmas layout! It was fun looking back through this thread at what we build a few years ago! Will have some updates in the next week as we finish this Christmas’ layout!
