My daughter secretely photographed my layout. She then sent the pictures out to a company that put into book form. It is a hardcover book, 40 pages. Really great quality and a totally unexpected surprise gift.

What a good idea and a great gift. You're a lucky dad.
Jeff,
Kudos to your daughter, great gift.
Great idea!
Wow, what a great idea and thoughtful gift!
What a great gift to receive from your wonderful and talented daughter.
Truly is a great gift, and one that will bring back great memories for many years (unlike stuff in Cyberspace that is quickly forgotten).
We had a Bill Bramlage feature in the magazine some time back (don't recall the specific issue right now) in which Bill described the making of a book like this for his grandson. It was a true story book--a day of adventures for Thomas the Tank Engine while he was operating on Bill's massive hi-rail layout. Very, very cool. The book was printed by an Apple publishing outfit.
NOW you need to get your daughter to photograph your layout for an OGR magazine feature, Jeff!
Very nice gift Jeff....!
By the way, I have been trying to e-mail you using the e-mail you supplied to the Mid America 3-Railers but it keeps getting returned as undeliverable / rejected. Please e-mail me...
Thanks,
Alan

The article Allan refers to is in Run 253, December 2011.
This is truly a great Gift.
My wife, Louanna, is a Creative Memories Consultant and she has/is doing this for me as I am constructing the layout. I think she now has 3 complete books and working on the fourth for me. This is a great gift and also a great way to promote this wonderful hobby that we all share.
Jeff that's a great gift and a wonderful idea. Enjoy
Alex
Jeff, you have one great daughter......You should, and I know you are, be proud. Don
Jeff,
Now that is a great daughter, giving a great gift. You are a lucky man
no doubt about it.

What a great gift. You can do that at Costco. I might do that with this layout before it comes down.
Here's a link to the iPhoto site. There also are other firms that provide a similar service.
What a great & thoughtful gift.
That is a great gift.
I am hoping I can get the pictures Jim Barrett took of my previous "dream" layout and do something similar. It's been 3 1/2 years since he was at my home and I've never seen them. Maybe they didn't turn out good enough for publication in OGR, but they'll mean something to me and my family.
Jeff: can you share what service she used?
I have done several photobooks though SNAPFISH. Very happy and high quality. BUT, wait for their offer of buy one get two free. Get a folder ready ahead of time with the photo you want to use- make sure that they are in focus and are high resolution, especially for full or half page photos. You can choose how many photos you want on each page and the type of arrangement. How much text you can add depends on which page template/design you are choosing for that page.
You all can see my scenic layout at www.magictrainworld.blogspot.com.

Priceless!!!!
This was great gift. Enjoy!!
Thanks to everyone for your supportive comments. I must say I was blown away when I opened the box. They spelled my name wrong on the binding of one so I just got a second corrected one for free. Works great...I can keep one in my car and annoy people with it...lol
