Ordered my FEF on Tuesday from Trainworld and it showed up Friday.  Trainworld did a great job of creating a shipping box from other boxes to house the factory shipping box; their constructed box was like a tank and included a bunch of air plastic; I've had other purchases from them and this is common for them.  The factory box was like new and factory sealed.

I unpacked the FEF and it was in pristine condition - no damage.  The detail and finish are first rate. Fired it up with my Legacy Command and all functions worked.  The whistle with its reverb is great; identical to the Big Boy.   AND, last but not least, it runs great!!  I lubed it with a light oil but did not grease the gears yet - I'm thinking it most likely has grease from the factory - maybe after some more run time (just went out and got some Red N Tacky 2 from Home Depot and a spice injector from Walmart).  O72 track just accommodates it; but, I think O84 would be better.  Since the loco was OK, I ordered a set of refers from M Muffin.

You guys were right, Lionel got it right with this loco; it is a good runner with quality build.  I will make my Christmas video shortly of my Christmas layout and post it.  I will have to tap you on the shoulder to figure how to embed a short sequence in a post.

Happy Camper

Glad it's working out for you, Rick.  I still very much enjoy running mine.  Just goes to show you what Lionel is CAPABLE OF, should they chose to do so.

You're right in that 0-72 track works but it does seem too small.  I haven't had a chance to see if someone who has run the Lionel FEFs on 0-80 or 0-84 has noticed a material improvement in appearance...but I'd certainly like to know if anyone out there is listening.

What I always found interesting is that my Lionel scale NKP Berks look good on 0-72.  Even my Santa Fe 3751 can pull off 0-72.  But the FEFs scream for something a little wider.  It just goes to show you large these locomotives and tenders actually were.

Congrats again and run the wheels off that bad boy!
