My four are my buddies for sure but definitely not train buddies!

I attempted a Christmas layout a few years back and three out of the four thought it was a contest to see which one could "catch and kill" the train first.  Needless to say they also didn't pay attention to the houses and other things on the layout in their pursuit.

I hope your friend recovers quickly and gets that collar off soon.

Earl, I hope your dog heals up soon. Ours hate wearing the "collar of shame".

Last Monday our 7 yr old GSP Minnie had a large tumor on her Spleen rupture. She lost 1200cc of blood. Emergency surgery was successful. Her net weight loss was 9 pounds. We are currently waiting on the results of the biopsy. Praying every day that it was benign.  The Vet just called, the tumor was benign!!!!!

Millie and Daisy wish the best for your buddy.

They love our Christmas train, too.  But mostly they seem to love whacking the low-hanging ornaments from the tree with happy tails!!  No glass ones there, mon'!!

Happy Monday....and a big THANKS! to past and present members of our armed forces for their dedication and service!!

This was my beagle, Mac, on a typical winter morning.  He went home to be with the Lord on August 12, 2011, at 13 years old.

He used to bark and chase after the trains early on, but eventually got to where he would ignore them unless everyone was watching him.  He hated the cold weather, especially on the rare occasions it snowed, but LOVED Christmas.  He just couldn't wait to open his gifts (and everyone else's)!  I've got some good Christmas pics, I just have to find them.

Paul,

There are a lot of Great Dogs, but simply NONE Better than a Golden Retriever. I had to take Barney, my first Golden, for his Last visit to the Vet in December of 96, I still miss that Dog. We think that he had been started in seeing eye dog training, Goldens LIVE for Fetch, that Dog would NOT chase a ball or Cat into a street. Walking him, at a corner he would stop and sit. Barney simply would not take food from a non-family member without my "Okay", and absolutely Terrific with small children. Oh and Matt, Barney was a Shelter Dog, I could not have gotten a better Dog, with papers from a breeder. I have no Idea how that Dog ended up at the shelter, call me Selfish, but I am sure Glad that he did, I just wish I asked more about how he got there. I also wish that I had more pictures of him, He was my Best Buddy when I first moved out, and never thought about the day that he wouldn't be there, then suddenly that day was TODAY.

Kane-  German Shepherd/Pit Mix (Shelter dog, special adoption, adopted him at age 1... told he may never be able to be around people, he was SEVERELY abused.....  He's 8 now, and wouldn't hurt a fly.  He loves kids, he loves his family... i just feel bad for the first stranger who walks in here without me.......they will get 85lbs of a dog who guards my layout!

We have four rescue dogs, an American foxhound (not pictured), a Golden Retriever/Chocolate lab mix, a pit bull mix, and a Greater Swiss Mountain dog mix. All were on "death row" with hours to live when a rescue saved them, and we are lucky to be in their lives.

Autumn relaxing, our golden/Lab mix.

They kind of like being up in the train room, but would much rather just hang out on the porch. Don't know what I would do without them and my wife...

Enjoy your treasured pets. I hope they bring you as much joy as ours give me.

Bruce

Doug and all,

Please don't take my post as a hit against shelter dogs. That is not and was not my intention. My intent was to bring attention to many shelter dogs that REALLY need help. If you are willing to work with them, they can be the best dogs and you get the satisfaction of saving a life. We had a golden lab from a breeder, great dog but a cute 8 week old puppy doesn't need as much help as an older guy in the shelter, despite a troubled history. One who adopts from a shelter, I think, expects some sort of issues with the dog, many of which the dog may never let go. Many shelter dogs, including my two, have been so mentally damaged, no amount of kindness and happiness will help them fully change although both have come a LONG way since the beginning. Anyone who adopts a troubled or "unwanted" shelter dog is in the top of my book.

Both of mine, despite some issues that will likely never be fully dealt with, are wonderful dogs. Loyal, protective, kind (usually) and more. They really needed the help which is why we have both of them. We likely will never buy another dog from a breeder. The ones in the shelter need the help more than an 8 week old cute puppy.

Charlie, that video was great!

I have this inscribed on a marker in our pets cemetery:

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

You are his life, his love, his leader.

He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.

You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
