Since nobody has a topic like this, I’ve decided to put this. This story below I made back in 9th Grade of High School back in 2007. This is my story. This isn't my dad's. They said to make a story up of your imagination and so I did. I got an A+ on it and they really enjoyed it. So I've decided to share it. I hope this story you find that it’s ok. I just thought since I went through my files and found the story I decided that I would put it hear on the forum. So please enjoy my story.

Train  Story

By: Tom Jr.

While out walking one summer night on July 8th, 2007, Tom ended up in a graveyard in the town of Pioneer Ohio, by some train tracks.  Tom  decided  that since  it  was  such  a  nice  night,  he  could  try  and  see  if  he  could  watch  some  trains  go  by.  He  walked  into  the  graveyard,  but  little  did  he  know  that  there  was a sign  above  the  graveyard  gate  entrance  that  said,  NOBODY  SHOULD  BE  HERE  UNLESS  THEY  HAVE  PERMISSION.  The  only  thing  odd  about  it,  was  that  the  gate  was  left  closed,  but  it  was  unlocked,  even  though  it  shows  it’s  off  limits.  Tom  left  the  gate  open. He wandered  inside  the  cemetery.

While  he  wandered,  he  heard  a  train  whistle  in  the  distance.  Tom  looked  down  the  track,  but  there  was  no sign  of  a train  coming.  He  thought  maybe  it’s  to  far away  yet  to  see.  Then  he  heard  the  whistle  again,  but  only  this  time  it  was  louder.  He  look again  and  there  still  was  nothing  down  the  track.  Tom  waited  and  waited,  but  nothing  happened.

While  Tom  waited,  he  got  up  and  walked  over  to  the  opened  gate  and  found  old  pieces  of  broken  railroad  ties,  old  wheels,  and  other  stuff.  He  wondered  for  a  minute,  maybe  there  was  a  train  wreck  here  or  someone  placed  those  items  here.  After  that,  he  went  back  to  the  train  track  to  see  if  the  train  was  still  coming.  As  Tom  walked,  it  got  very  cold.  That  was  very  odd  since  it  was  summer  season.  Maybe  it  was  just  a  cool  breeze  from  some  weather  system  coming.  But  then  there  was  a  rush  of  wind  that  went  through  him,  and  it  sounded  very  loud  like  a  train  going  by.  Then  after  a  minute  of  going  through  this,  it  stopped.

Tom  turned  around  and  the  gate  to  the  cemetery  was  closed.  That  was  one  of  the  weirdest  things  that  happened  to  him.  He  went  back  to  the  gate  and  locked  it  to  make  sure  it  wouldn’t  open.  Tom  went  back  to  the  track,  but  there  was  no  sound  of  a  train  or  train  whistle.  He  sat  down  once  more  and  thought, “Maybe  that  was  something  normal  that  happens  around  here  since  this  is  a  graveyard,  but  what  could  it  be?”

Tom  sat  there  thinking  to  himself  that  this  is  impossible.  But  while  thinking,  he  heard  another  train  whistle  in  the  distance.  He  got  up  and  looked  down  the  track  again,  but  there  was  nothing  there.  Then  all  of  sudden,  came  that  same  cold  air  and  hard  breeze as  before,  but  only  this  time,  it  was  shorter.  He  looked  back  at  the gate  and  it  was  open.  Tom  thought that  was  extremely  weird,  because  he  had just  closed  the  gate  5  minutes  ago  and  no  one  lives  around  here  to unlock this gate. Nobody lives in a 10 mile radius. There is just  this  graveyard. He went back and found nothing damaged to the gate.

Then  all  of  a  sudden,  Tom  heard  a  voice,  a  very  faint  voice  over  in  some  bushes  not  far  from  where he was  standing.  Whoever  it  was,  they were  trying  to  talk  to  Tom.  Tom  walked  closer  to  the  bushes  and  there  in  them  was  an  old  man.  He  asked  Tom  why  he  was  here  and  he  told  the  old  man  why.  Then  the  old  man  told  Tom  a  story  about  a  train  crash  that  happened  in  the  graveyard  a  long  time  ago.  Tom  listened to the man,  but  while  listening  to  the  old  man,  there  was  another  train  whistle  and  the  old  man  told  Tom  that  that’s  the  Train,  Pennsylvania  Railroad  #50.  He  told  Tom  every  night,  since  there  was  train  crash,  there  have  been  whistle’s,  cold  winds,  and  that  gate  opening  and  closing  over  there.  Tom  asked,  “Why  does  that  gate  open  every  time  this  happens  even  though  the  train  tracks  are  on  over  to  the  north  side  of  the  graveyard?”.  He  told  Tom  another  story  about  when  the  train  crash  happened,  the  train  track  went  through  that  area,  right  where  the  gate  is.  He  told  me  also  that  after  the  crash  happened,  the  people  of  this county wanted the track ripped  up and so they did,  and  put  a  new  one  over  to  the  north  side  of  the  graveyard,  where  you  thought  a  train  was  coming.  But  since  this  happened  45  years  ago,  that  new  track  they  put  at  the  north  side  of  the  Cemetery,  is  old  now.

Tom  told  him  he  understands  now  why  this  happens  with  the  cold  wind  and  other  things.  Then  Tom  asked  the  old  man  a  question,  “Where  do  you  live,  what’s  your  name,  and  why  are  you  hiding  here  behind  the  bushes?”  The  old  man  told  him  that  he  waits  for  the  train  to  come  and  pick  him  up  and  take  him  somewhere,  but  he  didn’t  want  to  tell  Tom,  and  he  didn’t  want  to  tell  Tom  his  name.  Tom  told  him  that  there  probably  won’t  be  any  train  to  pick  him  up. But just as he was saying that,  Tom  felt  the  ground  shaking.  Tom  turned  around  and  there  40  to  50  feet  in  front  of  him,  was  a  full  size  passenger  train  with  a  large  steam  engine  pulling  the  passenger  cars  in  the  graveyard,  parked  right  in  front  of  the  gate.  The  railroad  name  on  the  engine  tender  was  Pennsylvania  Railroad  and  the  engine  #50. He didn’t know what engine or cars they were. He was just in shock.

There  was  a  conductor  that  got  off  the  train  and  said,  “All  Aboard!”.  Then  the  old  man  Tom  was  talking  to,  went  up  to  the  conductor  and  gave  him  his  train  ticket.  Then  the  conductor  and  the  old  man  got  on  the  train  and  the  train  started  to  leave.  As  it  was  leaving,  Tom  waved  to  the  old  man,  the  old  man  waved  back,  and  then  the  train  went  into  the  woods  in  front  of  the  gate  and  the  train  disappeared.  Tom  was  so  scared  about  this,  but  after  5  minutes  or  so,  he  was  calm.  Tom  thought  to  himself,  “I  talked  to  an  old  man  that  got  on  a  train  that  no  longer  exists,  but  maybe  he  was  in  the  accident  of  the  train  crash  45  years  ago  and  was  trying  all  these  years  to  find  and  get  on  it,  and  someone  heard  his  voice,  and  brought  the  train  finally  here”.  Maybe  that’s  why  whoever  put  that  sign  above  the  gate  entrance,  to  the  graveyard  that  said,  NOBODY  SHOULD  BE  HERE  UNLESS  THEY  HAVE  PERMISSION,  doesn’t  want  anybody  to  be  in  the  graveyard,  because  they  don’t  want  people  to  see,  hear  or  feel  the  train, the  train  that  leads  on  to  Heaven.

Tom,

Good story.  You should write some more train stories.

Reminds me of a true one.  My wife was head nurse of an outpatient dialysis center before we had any kids.  (Now the kids are grown)  One day, one of the patients, an old backwoods fellow, started to code while on treatment.  One of the nurses called the ambulance and the doctor, who was enroute to the center for his daily rounds.  My wife resuscutated the old man.  By the time the doctor got there, the patient was feeling better.  He told the doctor, 'The glory train was a-coming.  I was at the station.  I had my ticket in my hand.  When the conductor called all aboard, Miss Kim, she called my name, pulled me back, and here I am to tell you I'll take the glory train another day.'

I have heard my wife tell this story many times.

i just told something I heard.  You had the creativity to think of something new.

Yes, you are correct. As for my story, I thought it up, but I got the idea from something. Can anyone take a guess? I created my own story, but used an idea.

Great story. Decades ago, there was a Model Train magazine, copies which I kept for years, and re-read. But my mom, (its always moms) while in the Army threw them out. But what was so good of the copies I saved was that the model Railroader had written stories about their layouts. Besides the town(s), they gave names to those that were in the layout, and a History of the reason for the railroad being there. Fascinating reading, wish there was more of this. To me, it gives a "Life" to the layouts.
