I stopped by the NASG Convention in Scranton PA yesterday. I was impressed by the incredible selection of scale and highrail available. Equally incredible was how overpriced a lot of it was. I've seen better deals on Ebay in most cases. Then at the last table I visited, I finally found some unique stuff custom painted by Mr. Ed Tooley of Brunswick Shops, Mt. Airy, Maryland that was reasonably priced plus he discounted it. These will go nicely with my Gilbert era circus and Defender sets:

Maybe, they're still in shock, the "I see S Gaugers..." type of thing.

About the only buzz I've seen is on Yahoo regarding the S Scale America Pennsy X29 boxcar kit.  Undecorated, less trucks, couplers and decals, $40 at the show, $49.50 afterwards.  Decals are $9.50.

Any word on if Lionel or MTH made an appearance?

There were some younger folk around and about during the two days I attended. One lad not much more than ~9 years old was running with considerable skill brass steam engine models using DCC on the beautiful S Scale Project scale modular club layout from Canada.

Lionel won the NASG Manufacturer of the Year award.

Bob

wow, the two heavy hitters not there?? I'm sure they had a scheduling conflict that they couldn't be there.............right.

Yes.... looks like the next generation of kids have very little interest and I have notice this trend for a few years now. Our meets are getting smaller and smaller as the years go by. It is to bad.

MTH is new to S, and Lionel seldom shows up at NASG conventons, S Fest's or S Spree's.  Unfortunately, the S doings are probably too small potatoes for either to show up.

Lionel did show up at the NASG convention in Milwaukee in 2003(?) The Mikado's were just about ready to come out and they had test shots of many of the Mikado's components.  We had a nice conversation with the Reps about the furture of Flyer and making it "scale friendly" using designs from the O scale line

There was another management change within the year and of course, those Reps are now long gone...

S Scale Project was truly an amazing layout. Hung out there for quite some time. There was also a nice switching module set up at the front w/DCC. They let me play with it for a bit. IDK, longtime highrail guy wondering if he should change his ways...BUT...nothing like watching the Big Boy or D&H U33C start up w/ TMCC.

Agreed on both counts. Below is a picture taken during the convention of the S Scale Project 2-rail scale modular layout with, front and center, a Lionel AF Y3a (modified for 2-rail scale) under DCC control.

I know I am late in responding to this, but this may be helpful to those who find this thread and read it on some future date (like I just did ):

You can always find the latest information about an NASG convention at:

http://www.nasgconvention.com/

It will always point to the most recently-completed convention, or the next one coming up.

The next convention is in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The current information about that one is available at this address:

http://www.nasg.org/Events/index.htm#upcoming2014
