Mike, Finally I have all the cars associated with the Navy set,  except for the fact I now have 2 of each. Trying to put this together I put a auction bid on some of the cars with the engine and as luck would have it I won that one too. So if there is an interest in them PM me.

I apoligise for not searching but where can I find pics of the old wooden "rail stop bumpers"used in the real world of trains

caboose, W/ light, gondola w/ 4 containers, sub car w/ sub, crane car, Rapid Attack white box car.

What about using some lumber with live edge. This is what I build for our displays and the one I sell locally.  This one is walnut,  and the rails are cut into the wood. This one fit's 2 or 3 rail cars and is 45 inches long.

When I worked at NNSY here in Portsmouth I worked (electronics) on the USS SAIPAN a bunch, really liked working on the LHAs as they had plenty of room.

When I saw the photos of the walnut I thought how cool it would be to have it shaped into a piece of wooden handrail, but I can't recall if there was any wooden handrail on the SAIPAN, although I expect there was near the Captain's passageway or brow.

Man, that was over 30 years ago that I worked at NNSY!!!
