Being cursed with a small room, even the traditional 4x8 layout is out as it fills 3/4 of the room leaving no room to do anything else. I could rebuild my folding layout the closes into a 1x10 frame work on the wall. Or, I have benchwork partially started for a 2 rail loop I was going to build. What is done is in a "C shape, bottom of the "C" is around 4 foot deep, the back of the C is 8 foot and the top is 6 foot. I have considered replacing the decking on the top of the modules with wider plywood to allow traditional 0-31 curves to be installed. The folding table is 4x7 in size if I rebuild it. I still have the frame work and hinges, just have to make a new fold down table as I used the wood from it elsewhere. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks Mike

What is the SIZE of your ROOM?
rooms overall size is 8 foot by almost 9 foot, this is why I wasn't happy what I could do in 2 rail unless I used really tight curves. I can do more with my Postwar Lionels! Mike
consider keeping any additions very simple. The goal would be to add some interest and varied operation. The room isn't big enough to make the running experience much different that you have now, so maybe a switching yard, or industrial siding to highlight some operating accessories.

Some good ideas here
I do not plan to put a 4x8 in the room as it blocks access to stuff my wife needs to get to. The closest would be rebuilding my fold down layout that closes against the wall frame when not in use. Option 2 at this point is a 36" deep shelf across the one end of the room to allow a simple loop of 031 track and my dept 56 buildings.
As I plan no turnouts for the F3's to go thru that would foul the fuel tanks, what about the same basic idea but with 0-27 track? I have a decent selection of good 0-27 track.
Thats probably what I will do, thanks for drawing it up for me. I tend to just let trains run as I "zone out" while watching them. I still have a few of my Dept 56 buildings left and I can find more. I just found a nice boxed Dept 56 church for $10 at the local indoor flea market. Mike
Found your new table in the 2-rail thread and was hoping it was the same. It's 30 feet of running.
Just did an O27 layout. Had to order the baby track screws from Microfasteners - #2 x 3/8" or 1/2" sheet metal screws in pan head Philips black oxide.
Ok, here is my final plan as I picked up enough good used O-31 tubular to build it. I am going to remove the top of the "C" and use it to extend the other side all the way to the other wall, it will however narrow a bit as it goes over my work bench to just wide enough to support 2 tracks side by side. I am going to widen the back of the "C" to 36" to support a loop of 0-31 track with my dept 56 inside the loop. At the one side, I have a 0-22 turnout to branch off the loop and go along the wall above my workbench, it will branch out into 2 tracks right away and will simulate the underground Chicago Union Station with buildings above and 2 tracks with raised platforms between and on the front side. I can back the NYC 2333's and ATSF 2343's in with passenger trains(to be purchased over the next year or so). Then I can lock out the E units, light them up. I am going to hide speakers to pipe in big band era music and station sounds from a RAM sound unit. Mike
