You can buy replacement drawbars, next time you hook your engines up place the engine and tender on a soft surface and turn them on their side. Snap the drawbar together. Then put the engine on the track. The drawbars are pretty flexible so don't worry about breaking them.

 

your drawbar is apparently broken and that is why it will not stay together. The little teeth on the end that you snap in can break and then it will not stay connected.
