@GGG thank you for the checklist and your suggestion to test in conventional.

@Vernon Barry an update: I got a replacement board. Triple checked all wires and connections etc. I built a new test track as @gunrunnerjohn suggested (ordered Micromark blocks, haven't come yet but I’m trying).  Replaced the board, tested in conventional, and moved normally. Now I need to load chain and sound files. I am going to load the sound file you suggested. I originally loaded the chain file labeled “Diesel Standard Smoke” on the other board. Is this correct? Just wanst sure since there is a smoke unit in the other A unit. (of course its shell is caput) There is only one smoke unit in the front A but it has two elements. If you can remember the chain file you loaded for your F-2, please let me know. We may have this licked! Thanks again everyone!

I know this is what I loaded https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...el_Osmk_3528-CPF.zip

Sorry, it's setup for a local trainshow day, so I might be a little out of pocket until later today. Ask away, I just may not answer until later this evening.

For PS-32 diesel with a large smoke unit, even if two unit in the engine loads the O smoke diesel flash code.  If it is a smaller engine like switcher with a small smoke unit you load the small smoke file.

Never load a PS-3 type flash code.  They should only be used with PS-3 diesel upgrade kits which is a real PS-3 diesel board driving LEDs.  Not 6V bulbs with the adapter board.  You can load PS-3 sound files, just not the flash  code.  Might get some quirky lighting with PS-3 sound file or it might work just fine, but they do work.  G

UPDATE:

So I somehow put this shell back together. It’s not perfect, but it looks good from about 5-10 feet away which is about the avg viewing distance on my layout. I posted a couple pics.IMG_1010IMG_1009IMG_1008IMG_1007

In testing the units, I have found some issues with the rear A unit. The motors are not synced with the front A unit. Front and reverse not working. Sometimes the motors will spin sometimes they don’t do anything. Inconsistent. Even when they spin, there are not keeping up with the front car. All the lights work, the smoke fan works but the smoke elements are not getting hot.

Is there a way to test the slave board? Is it possible that some functions work and some do not with a damaged slave board? Not sure the next steps to take. Thanks for any help!

Last Update!

Bit the bullet and purchased a new slave board for the rear A unit (the one that flew off the layout and into a pile of dust). Just couldn’t find anything else wrong with wiring or tethers etc.

Attached a video……Risen from the ashes! Thanks again to @Vernon Barry, @GGG and others for your help. Been a couple months but first time the ABA has run together! And with GJR’s constant LED upgrade to the passenger cars as well!

Congratulations, Mike!  The ABA engines look and run great!  It is certainly a tribute to all the help forum members have to offer.  I couldn’t help noticing the Western Maryland geep, since I have one as well!

Thanks Mark! Yes, it is the only WM engine I have at this time. Have some rolling stock and a wonderful snow plow! LOL  Having spent some of my life in western Maryland, I plan to look for some more motive power soon.
