Need Plastic Handrail Stand offs for Lionel MLB Steam Engine..UPDATE

Below is a parts page for the Cubs Berkshire.  As you mention they are different heights and part numbers.

I did something similar for my daughter a few years ago.  I used a 244 scout, which has an open AC motor rather than the plastic gearbox found in many scouts.  It was a big hit with my daughter.  It was my first repaint, and not the crispest job, but she still reveres it.  I also used some diamond rhinestone stickers over the coal load in the tender, which turned out pretty neat in my opinion.

I think the Berkshire will be a great engine to use for your project.

Looks good JD, hope mine turns out that good. I had to resort to brake fluid to strip the engine which worked better than I thought. Still working on the tender. I got this on the bay for $40.00, someone had painted thick black, Glad i didn't spend more, didn't expect a cheaper can motor for the power plant.

Personally, if it were me, I'd replace all of the original ones on that steamer with the older silver metal wire versions that insert in the hole and then you bend outward in each direction. Though on this particular loco, it would be hard to get them at different heights away from the engine body.

At any rate, those current stanchions break very easily. When I've broken them on my locos, I eventually replace them as mentioned above.

I second Brian on that one.  I rebuilt a PE Berk for a client, and his kids had played most of the plastic stanchions off.  I wound up replacing the lot with 1666E-11 metal stanchions, and they're still holding up years later.

Precision Scale Co.    page 130.  You would have to find a supplier.  PD Hobby shop has some Precision Scale parts.

I found these when I was looking up parts for the 6-18754 PE Berk Jr, but I would guess that they will work for all Berk Jr shells. Also, it might be a good idea to look into the Berk Jr stanchion placement chart so you know where to place the different sizes of stanchions. Although it is currently unavailable on the Lionel Replacements Parts Store, someone here might be able to shed some light on the correct placement order. I would, but I'm not certain of the placement order myself.

Here is an update. Some have asked for me to share the finished product, so here goes. This is for my granddaughter that loves trains and was born in 2018. This was a Major League Baseball engine/Polar Express/ Baby Berk. that I got cheap off of Ebay, someone had painted it heavy black and gold. I used brake fluid to strip the engine and tender and that worked extremely well. I was able to find the handrail stanchions with the help of S&W and The Train Tender. The lettering on the tender was different sizes to simulate printing by a child. I got pretty lucky in missing the rivets when applying the letters. I have also gotten all of the "Girls Set" reissued cars to make a set with the exception of the LV hopper. I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt. Feel free to let me know what you think. If anyone has a box for this engine and tender that they don't want, I would be interested. I think that she will be able to have some fun with this, for Christmas.
