I think this tank car that would stand out well in a train, but from what I can find,  too new for my era (1953).  Looks to have early roller bearing trucks.



Here is a photo I found on the net on the Tioga Central, which is a tourist railroad.

 



Any idea when this car was built?  Are these the original trucks?

I looked in the Railway Equipment Register for January 1953, and this car isn't listed.

Well, stumbled on some additional information on this car on an Atlas Forum thread:

4000 gallon 2 dome small diameter tank
blt 1960 but dimensions said to resemble older tank

Well, the first thing I did was let my bid on e-Bay get out-bid.    That is the beauty of limiting oneself to modeling a specific era, it keeps impulse purchases to a minimum. 

 

There is a very nice article in I believe the June 1994 "Model Rairoader" for a very unique 4500 gallon single dome that I think I'm going to take a crack at in HO and O once I get my work desk clear of a bunch of outstanding items.  Oh, and finish a whole plethora of work on the basement HO layout.......................
