I have a Lionel PRR E-7.  You can tell that it is really an E-6 they used a die insert to modify the nose to reduce the sloped angle of the nose which isn't shaped quite right.  Unfortunately, they used an E-6 pilot, so the angle of the front of the pilot is steeper than that of the nose which makes it look weird.  I would like to change it, using perhaps a pilot from the Lionel F-3/7, or perhaps from their new E-8.  What part would you suggest, and is the pattern of the mounting holes the same as on the E-7, or would it be necessary to drill new holes in the replacement pilot. Do you have a part number? Has anyone else tried this before.  And the replacement pilot need not be a Lionel, if someone can suggest an easy conversion using a pilot say from Atlas, MTH, or Williams.

Thanks to anyone who can help

+1 on P&D.  Suggestion:  go to their website and when you have identified possible pilots you are interested in, phone and talk to Pat to get his insight.  Regrettably, P&D does not post pictures for many of their offerings which makes it even more necessary to talk to Pat IMHO; particularly as it relates to attaching the pilot.

Also, look at pictures of F and E units to consider what alternative pilots may work for you before you call.  Good luck.
