Or if you want ready made http://www.electricrr.com/ or maybe a Williams conventional board with a whistle?(opinions of quality vary?).

I assume a post war air whistle wouldn't be up to your standards, but if it is, they also put them into billboards, and stations for use with "any train".

The postwar whistle sounds better compaired to what I have now.And williams sounds better to their hudson sounds pretty cool.Any way thanks for your reply.

Bachmann may still sell a Williams board. Direct from them may be pricier than checking with some of our advertisers though

The PW whistling billboards are not only my next accessory choice, but will likely the cheapest way to a whistle. Made by Lionel, American Flyer, Marx, and even Tyco (all plastic, they tend to friction squeal.) the whistling billboards can be directly switched, or remote controlled by a whistle relay if you like.

The boards are attractive in that many have bells too (lots of info leads here on how to make a bell operating button.)

If you have room, you could add the board just for the whistle, leaving any present control board in there. Or just swap with the ERR version or something similar.

GRJ & Stan's project should allow more versatility with "extra" sounds and changes.

You could try a "wanted" post in the for sale section here. Lots of folks have goodies like this they will part with if asked.

If this is an air whistle, I would think the motor shaft might need lube or replacement.

Or the fan is rubbing..

Board unit? Is it possible the speaker is going bad? I've never heard that whistle to know if it was crap from the git-go, but it could be a capacitor issue too.

Age is not kind to capacitors on sound boards. If your adventurous, and think its a "bad" board, I'd swap out the capacitors for a few bucks and some time.

Good luck.

The TMCC version of your engine uses a generic steam Railsounds 4 board that has a pretty decent whistle but its not cost effective to gather the components and put them in your engine unless you can find a used set. I agree with GRJ that the ERR Railsounds Commander is your best bet today. The kit includes all the connectors and a better speaker than what you have now.

Since it's a digital sound file, that's pretty hard to believe.  I've never heard of it, and I can't imagine how that might work.

This mod was for the old ERR Sound Commander board, which has been discontinued for years. Not the railsounds board.

The mod should be on Carl Tuveson's website.
