went to the neuse river train show in Raleigh today and ended up running a few trains with the east carolina railroaders. i also picked up 2 vintage model train catalogs, a book about the first 100 years of toy trains and 4 postwar freight cars to add to my fleet. there was a really cool norfolk and western FM trainmaster for 105 bucks but i didn't have enough money but i still had a fun time and got lots of walking in. sometime next week i will post a youtube video about the show. i had a great time

i picked up 2 sunoco 2 dome tankers an Erie boxcar and New york Central boxcar. i also got a lionel 2007 vol2 catalog

the other catalog i picked up might make me have to learn German - a 1991 marklin catalog that has these trains that look like something in my dreams like a cross between a steam engine , race car and moon rover. these dreamlike trains are from something called ALPHA and i have to find them now. Also i picked up a book that details toy trains from 1870 to 1974 and boy that book is pure eyecandy especially if you love tinplate and european trains. golly man those trains are so dreamlike. i dream of trains like that on a regular basis.

also this show taught me how i have very little self control... and not enough money... my eyes are bigger than my wallet.

anyway i had a great time today

Cody,

Glad to hear that you had a great time at the train show.  As you found out, it's fun to just walk around and see what's for sale and to watch the trains run around the layouts.  I too had to learn to balance my "wants" with my "wallet"!  Buying some books and catalogues was a smart idea.  It's like visiting a train show or a layout over and over from the comfort of your own room.  Enjoy the new rolling stock.

It sounds like you did have a great time, picking up some good stuff, and without spending too much money. I and many others share your problem of little self-control and not enough money. John D. Rockefeller, Sr., founder of Standard Oil and at one time the richest man in the world, supposedly was asked by a reporter how much money was enough. Rockefeller's reply was, "just a little bit more." The historicity of the quote has been questioned, but it's true that our eyes can be bigger than our wallet however much we have. When I saw the Lionel Pennsylvania Railroad baby K4, I really had to have that, but the price was not within my means unless I bought nothing else for quite a while. So I readjusted what I want to match what I can afford and am glad I did. For instance, when I go window shopping at Trainz.com I use the "refine by" feature to limit the price. It's changed my whole outlook. That price-limiting feature means that I won't see what's beyond my limit, and I'm amazed at all the stuff that appears that is within my range.

Yes; you go and not expect to find anything; I got the deal of the Century.  A double track Atlas Pratt bridge and a Single Atlas Pratt bridge for $100.00.  I am planning on expanding my layout and wasn't actually thinking about bridges.  But upon spotting the bridges, I had to verify that the prices were correct.  I wasn't planning on adding a bunch of Bridges but I am now.  Lol
