Jim Elster of Scenic Express showed me, at the recent York, PA TCA Meet, with great excitement, his new figures in 1/48, which are handmade and handpainted in Pittsburgh (I think I have that locale correct.) I think they are fantastic and possessed of great, great charm, and priced as one might expect within the range of what well-detailed figures cost. You just gotta see the firemen, and the little trick-or-treaters, like the cowboy, and the little ghost; the li'l witch, and the elf. They are something you are going to discover you absolutely must have, even if you do not have a layout!

Recommended with enthusiasm and respect,

HotWater, I don't see photos of them on his website yet. Perhaps, if you call Jim (Toll free: 800-234-9995; Sales: 724-468-3106) and / or e-mail him (sales@scenicexpress.com) and inquire, telling him I mentioned them here after he showed them to me at York, he'll respond in a way that you will find satisfactory. I do recall he had "normal" figures and a good-sized variety of them in this new collection.

I'm always on the lookout for high quality figures.

A friend of mine just showed me his collection of lead figures. They are too large for O gauge.  They were all hand painted perfectly. Ralf Kramden was my favorite. Would look grat by a parked bus. The Mayberry group was great also..especially Barney.  If they were close to the correct size I would have bought them instantly.

A cast of characters on the layout from TV shows and movies would be right up my alley.

I will for sure be checking out the Scenic Express new ones. Thanks for posting about them Frank.

I'm not going to speculate about this, Andrew, for his new collection. My impression was they were 1/48. Perhaps, inquire of Jim himself, if you have concerns in this regard.

Really? That's the first I ever heard/read that being stated. I always thought they were 1/48 - 1/50. No? In particular, the seated workmen by Artista are figures I have managed to place inside John Deere forestry logging vehicles/equipment, and they fit in snugly w/out needing to file their hips or knees down. Also, they fit in the driver's seat in scale earth-moving equipment, like 'dozers," I have fitted them into.
Are you sure you are not thinking of some Preiser figures, J Daddy?

Interesting.
