I'm also hoping for more freight cars with sounds. I've kinda' mastered the technique of creating Station Sounds diners, and I have several in the queue to add to the two I've already done.
I am embarrassed to ask, but what are "assy's"? -- and please don't make me the butt of any jokes. Let's leave those behind. I just hope this thread doesn't go in the toilet. Thanks!
Ha ha! You crack me up!
At the LCCA convention, Lionel announced that they were redoing a bunch of accessories to make them play nicer with Fastrack and the new Lionchief sets (because they do not have a traditional transformer to hook accessory wires up to...)

It will be interesting to learn if this catalog offers any new aluminum passenger car sets. As David said, they have so many to catch up on.
What time is the catalog up tomorrow?

"Gentlemen....prepare your wallets!"
It goes "live" at 11:00 AM both on Lionel's web site and ours. Pricing and pictures are done. You can pre-order right away. While I can't go into details it contains some cool new items including the introduction of Lionel's new "Plug N Play" line!
The iPhone 6 and the new Lionel catalog come out today. It's going to be an expensive day today

I thought the catalog was going to go live on Wednesday the 10th.
Unless my calendar's running slow, it looks like today's Tuesday the 9th.

I missed the memo about the discontinuation of the countdown clock.
According to Charlie's first post in this thread, it's tomorrow.
Is this 11am Eastern time? I'm dizzy with anticipation.
oops my bad
Maybe if you read the original post and thread and checked the calendar before being so trigger happy to post/start new topics on anything and everything you can think of, you'd find the answer.
Tomorrow at 11:00 AM it is.

Lady already has attached post-it note to the computer to remind me. She sure takes good care of me.

Where is Lionel's Clock for the Countdown??

I am stunned that there wasn't a leak.
It seems the OGR industry is more secretive than Apple Computer.

I just wish the Lionchief locos weren't handicapped by being operable only with the handheld...which is often flimsy in low priced sets. They should all (not just plus) have a conventional mode. Otherwise its like the MPC sets with a DC only loco.
Rusty Traque: One of my favorite movies.
Interesting that there will be a new BTO engine. Looking fwd to seeing it
WTF is a BTO?
Built To Order. Only the number of engines ordered will be built.

From the Lionel website:
LionChief™ Plus, an exciting and innovative twist in classic Lionel locomotives
Use the LionChief™ Remote, for long distance control, great sounds, and operating multiple locomotives at the same time. Or flip switch and operate LionChief™ Plus locomotive from your current conventional transformer.
You are able to operate LionChief locomotives from a conventional transformer.
Lionchief PLUS are able to be operated from a convention transformer using varying voltage.
LioneChief locomotives that are widely used in the sets are not.
It is online early!

As usual...nothing for Long island Railroad
WOW! The catalog is LOADED with something for everyone. I am impressed that Lionel has developed a Fastrack "plug and play" accessories system (and the return of a few of Lionel's popular accessories that can be plugged directly to the Fastrack).
Love the Command Controled gantry cranes, but I think Lionel itself should sell the "third party" crane Fastrack.
Nice to see a couple of new Lionelville buildings (same molds / different artwork to theme them).
The locos are very nice, but there wasn't any that truly jumped out to me (I am sure there will be many OGR enthusiasts who will grab many of them).
I must say that I am intrigued by some of the LionChief Plus motives. It just irks me that they can only be operated by the supplied controller. It would be better if the Legacy 990 system could operate the LionChief Plus engines as well by simply keying in the engine's ID or frequency on the Legacy Cab 2 remote.
I was also pleased to see LED bulbs are being used in the re-issued 16-lamp yard tower light.
Over all, very nice offering. I am sure I will be ordering from this catalog.
What do you guys think?
What are you planning to order?

If that were the case, they'd also cost like Legacy locomotives! Lionel is simply trying to protect the market share for the "upscale" part of the product line. The LC+ are, for the most part, targeting a different market segment.
Check out our contest too!
Very little new Pennsy, how about that. My wallet is safe 'till next year.
But great offerings for most everyone.
Bingo! Personally, I have no interest in accumulating a boat load of remotes beyond the five or so LionChief ones I already have for my Thomas stuff. I understand the "different market" concept and the "conventional operation" capability, but I think they're missing a broader potential market by limiting things to the one-controller-per-engine technology for a growing population that operates in a command control environment (TMCC, Legacy, DCS).
I think the possibility exists that they may make a "multi-engine" LC+ controller, but I see very little chance that they'd make the Legacy system compatible with the LC+ line.
Obviously, this is just my opinion, but it seems to be the way they're heading.

Folks complained that legacy is too "cumbersome" and complicated. Lionel comes up with a small remote that can be held in a childs hand and is simple to operate, and folks want a universal remote with more capability

All I am going to say is....
I Love Lionel trains, but MTH with PS2 and PS3 and a zillion firmware and software upgrades for the past 14 years and STILL only ONE remote that controls every MTH line of engines .
The high nose GP30 has my attention. I also like the attention to detail in equipping the trucks of the GM&O unit with AAR side frames.
For me, the high nose GP30 is the highlight of the catalog.
