Interesting that they are bringing in an outsider, in this case from Toronto, to try and straighten out the subways in NYC. I suspect (pure speculation) that one of the reasons is to try and smooth over the rift between the city and the state, that the prior appointee was close to the NYC Mayors office. I wish the guy luck, with on time performance getting down to levels not seen since the dark days of the 1970's, the subways need some serious work. At least in the 1970's the reasons were pretty obvious, many years of deferred maintenance and the city was in financial trouble, that isn't true today, it is kind of pathetic in a city where so many are riding the subway and where you have a city that has become one of the most expensive places in the world to live, to have a subway turning into a third world transit system again (and yes, I realize it isn't that bad, the trains themselves are infinitely better than the wrecks of the 1970's), but it is pathetic when you have a world class city with a subway falling apart.
