Well I am having fun modeling my 11th module of my layout (out of 17).  This one has 12 individual signals all together with part of a new station.  I wire up all my module first and then apply all the modeling details later.  I have finished wiring module 12 and 17 also.  Here are the 2 interlocking signals that work in tandem with the toggle switches used to control the 2 track switches shown here.  Next up is the IND style tile wall that will be part of the (as of now) 125th Street station (island platform).

I make my signals out of ABS Plastic from Plastruct.  It is 1/8 inch thick and cut to size with a Dremel.  The holes are drilled 3/16 inch whereby the lenses are inserted and kept in place by O-rings.  The LEDs are supported using their leads by a piece of cut styrene.

All signals are controlled by a signal controller circuit that uses old fashioned TTL chips (NAND gates, inverters, etc).  Each block on the layout has a current detector circuit that detects a train in the block.  The detection signals are sent to the signal controller.  All modules have one or more signal controllers depending on the complexity of the module.

I have a degree in electrical engineering, so I guess that helps.
