P9030613P9030610P9030611So, after more than 20 years of having a single Lionel Hellgate bridge as my center piece with two mains running through it, thought it was time for a change!!! We are about mid-way through the change to the Lift Bridges one mainline is operational the other is having a custom-built support structure for under the track, since this mains radius changed. At least the railroad can generate some revenue again!! We did not wire the bridges to operate, they are in the down position all the time. (Yes, still have to duck under, ugrr.....)  Thinking about adding some fencing to sides of the bridges as they are sitting on a piece underlayment. Of course, ballast, people, ground cover, maybe even some lights shining on the bridges.

Hey, Pa. gang do those abutments look familiar???

Jeff

Just a reminder, Those beautiful huge, grey lift bridges were built in South Korea by Samhongsa who was under contract to Mike Wolf. Mike was working with Richard Kughn who had bought Lionel in 1988. Mike was a consultant to Lionel from 1988 until 1993-4 which came to an abrupt end when he started to make his own trains.

I think many of us are glad Mike Wolf went out on his own and started MTH Trains. It gave some real competition to Lionel and us train operators and/or collectors benefited from it as they both  constantly stepped up their game to compete with the opposite company. Mike is retired now but parts of his company still are going between the scaled down version of MTH, and what Atlas bought to improve their O Gauge selection. Competition is good for us!
