Well I was really happy when I received my new Lionel 765 Berkshire this past Holiday. And I was ready and prepared for the bushing issue, as I unwrapped the locomotive and the front pilot and bushing assembly fell out onto my lap.

But I was undaunted and glued the assembly back in as recommended. Sure enough I was up and running in 30 minutes... had to read the instructions just in case there were any changes.

But when I shut the engine down with a Aux 5 and turned the power off, then returned seconds later the sound was turned down.

So I hit the Aux 1 - 1 and the sound was up to normal. Ran it around the track all was fine... tried it again  hit Aux 5, turned power off, wait a few minutes, turned power back on... cannot hear any sound. Hit Aux 1- 1 and sound was up to normal... Odd thing is it does not do it everytime, just indiscriminately... to test my sanity!

Has anyone else seen this? Should I be concerned with this? Problem is if I return to Lionel I'm sure it will work fine for them, and I will get billed a service fee.

At first I thought it was Cab 2 issue but this is the only locomotive I am seeing this issue with.

How are you starting back up?

Typically I use the ENG button which brings up the Start Up and Shutdown Icons at the bottom of the remote numerical keypad.  I use both of these to do the respective control.  Can't say I've seen what you have doing this but I'd have to try it to confirm.

Any other info?  I doubt there is any electronic differences in the 765 boards and previous recent Legacy release but I guess it's possible.

I start up just like the rest of my engines; Eng, then the ID no. then hit the power on icon. Like I say, sometimes its at the sound where I shut it off at; sometimes its off, sometimes its very low. I hit Aux1 -1 and raise the sound back up again...

I know adding the 9 volt will not eliminate this... is something happening during the shut down sequence?

I'll look into this J Daddy, but let me be sure I understand exactly the scenario, which I understand is intermittent.

(CAB2 controller, right?)

send berk 765 engine a <5> key shutdown

turn off track power (for how long? Does the problem only happen when track power cycled on/off?)

turn on track power

hit startup (tap or press and hold for dialog?)

(usually hear sound, but if no sound, then...)

hit AUX-1, 1 (volume up command--how many times do you hit the 1 key? Does the sound return all at once, or a little bit louder with each <1> key press?)

Thanks Railsounds...

I have a ZWL hooked up as well via Legacy so here it goes:

Initial start up:

1) hit power on via a keyless room remote

2) confirm ZWL is on and legacy command base is on.

3) Hit TR <1> and turn dial to raise ZWL power on full

4) Hit Eng <65> and power icon in lower left hand corner of display

5) Sound will be at either full up, down all the way, or somewhere in between.

6) Hit Aux1 <1> hit progressively if needed to raise sound full up. Sound raises incrementaly until it reaches full up.

Take engine on a few laps.... 10 minutes or more.

Shut down:

1) rotate throttle down

2) Aux1 <5>

3) TR <1> Aux1  <0>

4) Hit power off via Keyless remote

5) confirm power is off

That's the proceedure...

I thought maybe the display on the Cab 2 may have an issue   Hit <5> and <3> is activated... but cannot confirm this.

J Daddy, this sounds like a hardware problem with the Railsounds board in your particular engine. I forwarded this issue to the head of Lionel Customer Service. Please contact CS and let the rep you speak with know that Rudy from Engineering has been in touch with CS on this issue.

Knowing well that electronics are full of operational inconstancies, that can be affected by things as simple as where you've chosen to "plug in" that day, and being unaware of the policy, I find reading that is somewhat disturbing. Perhaps a including video would help swing a questionable, intermediate, repair case in your favor? (if you aren't already being helped by obviously caring folk like Rudy)

Mine does not change from the previous level.  I noticed your shut down sequence is different though.  After rotating throttle down, I hit the Eng button to bring back the engine menu and then hit the shutdown icon (right next to startup).  Have you tried that?  I have never used that sequence you do for shutdown.
