Marty,
Nice looking engine, let us know how it functions as time progresses.

Saw one today at Nassau Hobby, looked very nice. This is a scale Railking model with smoke.
If you want one and didn't preorder....I suggest you act quickly..word is that they're in very short supply

I know Charles Ro has many people wanting the engine. I just got done doing a break in run after grease and oil. It runs fantastic. Aside from great smoke this engine has some very nice number board lights fore and aft.
I don't have any Long island equipment but I do like the paint scheme. Nice engine Marty.
Marty:
RMT has some passenger cars that might look nice with this - LIRR. They are not scale, though, so not sure how particular you are. But it's the same color scheme.
Hope you are feeling better.
Marty,
Grab the MTH LIRR grey and orange passenger cars while you're at it!

Like the paint scheme.
Do you know the era that the LIRR used it?
Hello Charlie. I do not know when these ran. It is a great looking and great running locomotive. The smoke is very powerful.
Hi Marty, great looking engine enjoy it
Thanks, Alex
These are the World's Fair colors. RS-1s, RS-3s were repainted about 1964 and the new C420s were delivered in these colors. After the MTA took over, there was a program to repaint all locomotives into the MTA colors of yellow and blue. It took a while so these might have been seen this way into the early 1970's.
The RS-1 was the only locomotive to were 5 different paint schemes: 1. In Brunswick Green with Gold letters as PRR specified 1949 . 2, Tichy Greys, red and aluminum as repainted after the bankruptcy 1950. 3. Goodfellow scheme, Grey with orange ends, 1955 4. Worlds fair scheme 1964 , MTA colors 1970's.
Glad to see that this loco has smoke and number boards now. Both are lacking on my older, 1st run of the RS1. It's a great model, with excellent 539 engine sound. My only gripe is the somewhat funky sideframes.
What's funny/strange is that is model is closer to being a Premier model than the VO-1000 from last year. It has a better smoke unit than the VO, and lighted number boards, which the VO doesn't have. Both have separate grab irons, coupler cut levers, and cab crew figures. The only thing the VO has that makes it a Premier model is that the pilots have holes drilled and tapped for mounting Kadee couplers. As a result I feel that this RS-1 is a much better value than the VO-1000.

Hi Stuart
I would agree with your critique comparison.
Looking forward to getting mine. I will be in the store next saturday most likely
Marty, I'm very concerned about you. Buying LIRR equipment, nice or not, is like breaking a long held taboo. Next thing we know, you'll be rooting for the Jets.

I have a lot of friends on Long Island. I also have some great Navy buddies I served with who live on the Island. I first became a fan of Long Island while in the Navy. For every two beers you would purchase, the bar would give you the third free. On Navy pay and loving beer back then, this was a huge plus.
Long Island has some great train layouts and train guys who live there.
J-E-T-S--a big NO. Dotty and I will be wearing our Patriots gear to Trainstock just for Ted Bertiger. Last year, Dotty and I stopped by to visit with Locolawyer and he was very hurt that we did not want to see the JETS training camp that was in his hood.
As you might remember, early in the year I made a statement on this forum that the New York press would ruin the JETS team with the QB situation. They played it huge but as always the QB ruined the team. We call him Air Ball up here in New England.
I do want to look at the Long Island cars to make up a commuter train. I like Long Island and could live there with no problem. I am big on the area and the people are great.
What is the MTH part number for it?
Here you go Vince, 30-20080-1. This is the extra one that I mentioned to you in the email.
Andy
Oh! ok, going back and checking!
I was dead set on C420s and C-Liners but after seeing this post I like that MTH RS3.
Does it make smoke?
Gee Bobby..you must be a mind reader, as that picture is the Morris Park shops I would beg my dad to drive by so i could see the LIRR engines.
I loved that coaling tower!
NOW I have to get them!
Chipset,
I often would drive by Morris Park and look at the engines on the ready tracks. It was my good fortune to have witnessed LIRR steam as I grew up in Floral Park in the early 1950s. More than once my friends and I hopped the coal train to Creedmore.
That coal tower is a must build project for my layout also.
