New MTH PS3 engine stopped working

I'm not familiar with that engine, but I assume there is an electronics board in the tender and no tether.  I would suspect that the drawbar is not making a good connection.  It has to be snapped together soundly.

Thanks  RJR for your suggestion.  I tried the reseating the drawbar.  This did not help.

It sometimes is not an easy task to get the drawbar seated properly.  I would recommend waiting a day or so to hear suggestions, and then contact MTH.

If you blew the audio amp or tender board while removing the engine from the track with power it may be dead.  Needs to have boards tested.

NEVER remove electronic trains from powered tracks, or place them on powered tracks.  You can cause a voltage spike that can damage electronic boards. G

GGG, that sounds like a good argument for putting a TVS inside every loco.  Wonder why the manufacturer hasn't done so--probably would cost only an extra penny in China
