Hey all,

I just tried out my new MTH Premier Berkshire and I am having some issues. While this will probably require that I take it in for service, I thought I would ask for ideas.

The engine gorgeous and I have been waiting for this one for some time. When I set it up, DCS finds it, and it runs, but there is no smoke control, no sounds at all, and no rear coupler control. The front light works fine -on/off.

I am not adverse to taking things apart, so if it is a loose wire, that’s an easy fix. But I don’t know the board layout in the tender. Could all these functions be controlled off one board?  Could the board be toast?  I thought of the drawbar, but the engine runs fine which I though it wouldn’t do if it had a bad drawbar.

The engine is new, never used. I’m just looking for ideas and suggestions from those  with much more experience then I.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the responses so far. Mike, I will pop it open tonight and look at the wires. I hope it is just as simple as a quick replug of a loose wire.

Scott, I already checked the wireless draw bar and it is well connected on both ends, but that was a good suggestion as I heard some of the new engines were having a few issues with the draw bar.

Bruce, I’ll contact you if I need service. I would assume it would be under full warranty and I have the receipt.

Well, I opened her up and took a look.

First, there is this plug that is just hanging there. Not sure what it is for. Is something missing or is it for some kind of programming.

Second, this plug was loose so I reattached it. I’ll reassemble and try it out.

Cross your fingers.
many further input on that black wire in the first pic would be helpful.

That black wire is for an auxiliary water tender. It allows you to fire the rear coupler on the auxiliary water tender instead of the regular tender when pressing the rear coupler button.

That loose plug (the 20 pin connector) is probably the source of your issue. Let us know if plugging it in fully solves the problem. It should.
