The sound of my Southern Pacific U25B just didn't sound like a Uboat FLD engine. Downloaded and installed the sound from a narrow nose GE MTH # 20-20121-1 and now it is great. Start up and shut down are awesome. At medium speed you hear that good old 4 cycle GE beat.

I went thru (installed) maybe 5-6 sound files after I installed PS2 in an old RK 2-8-0 before I found one that I really liked (s07rpf3__280___nyc070504afin.mth)
I wish MTH would post samples of each file so we could listen to them, otherwise it takes a good while to wade thru them all. I've found a couple that someone posted online, is there a way we can imbed or post a sound file on here so others may listen to it?
Soo,
You are correct re the U25B. The sound package I would guess is for a EMD GP30. A correct sound package for a U25B would be pretty tough to obtain. I am not aware of any operating GE U25B's and only a few still in existence.
The MTH GE Dash 8 also uses the GE FDL engine, and the sound is "similar but not identical". One U25B feature that makes the sound unique is the twin 40" drive shaft driven radiator fans. (On Dash 8's, the rad fan is powered by a motor.) Since the twin radiator fans are driven from the FDL engine on U25's, the fan noise increased in direct correlation to the throttle notch.
I may try a download of the Dash 8 file on my NYC #2500, since the sound installed is not even close to the real sound that these engines made.

I have the PS3 U25B and I thought it sounded great. Is that the locomotive you have?

My U25's are Proto-2, but the engine sound is pretty close to the U-boat at Orange Empire Railway Museum. I'm surprised they didn't port it over to Proto-3.
My U25B is a proto2. I was told that Proto3 sound files are not available at this time.
I have an Atlas GP9 and the sound is great, it sounds like a normally aspirated EMD.
