John,

Before you connect the WIUs in MTH mode...

First, are you absolutely certain that all 3 TIUs have DCS 5.0 installed? Any TIU that has a lower DCS version will not work with he WIU.

If you're certain that all TIUs have DCS 5.0, then move WIU #2 to TIU #1. If WIU #2 then fails to find TIU #1, the issue is definitely with WIU #2.

If WIU #2 works with TIU #1, then reconnect WIU #2 to TIU #2, however, use the cable from TIU #1.

If WIU #2 then works with TIU #2, the problem is the cable originally used to connect WIU to TIU #2.

If WIU #2 fails to work with TIU #2, the problem is possibly TIU #2.

Next, repeat the above with WIU #3 and TIU #1.

Barry,

To confirm tiu versions I did tiu setup/tiu version/ tiu 1/ tiu code version = 5.0.  I did that for the other two as well.  same results.  I took the tiu's out of super mode and put them in normal mode thinking that might help.

using my iPad sitting right by tiu1 with the wifi blue light illuminated, I pressed the refresh (upper left corner), and my iPad returns a message saying "no tius found" Make sure your iOS device is connected to the same network your wifi module is on (it is).  on wiu I have three lights lit, power tiu and wifi.  track power is on

I also did a read and was able to find all my tius.

thoughts?

OK so I have the MTH wi-fi set up for the most part and am using the MTH not the home wifi, but now I have two MTH w-fi networks.  I obviously only want the one but I can't remember how to make the slave attach to the master instead of becoming its own master, if that makes any sense.  Is there something I need to press on the master (or the slave) to make the other wi-fi not create its own network.  Should the slave be in the home or the MTH mode?

I turn on the first master and it creates a wi-fi network that the 3rd device connects to.  The second device creates its own network.

I looked in the book but, I am missing something, clearly.

There's an easy way to do this that's discussed on page 209 of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition, right after the set of bullets at the top of the page. However, it's a bit easier if I describe it for you below:

  • Leave the 1st WIU in MTH mode.
  • Set the 2nd WiFi Interface Unit’s "MTH/Home" selector switch to “Home”.
  • Connect the 2nd WiFi Interface Unit to the 2nd TIU by connecting the USB Port on a Rev. L TIU to the USB Port on the WiFi Interface Unit. If the TIU is an older model, use a Serial to USB cable to connect the two devices.
  • Attach the included antenna, and plug the WiFi Interface Unit’s power supply into an AC outlet and the power supply's cable into PWR port on the WiFi Interface Unit. Wait a minute or two for the WiFi Interface Unit's PWR, Wi-Fi and TIU LEDs to light.
  • Wait for the white WPS LED on the WiFi Interface Unit to come on steadily, and then turn off.  DO NOT PRESS THE WPS BUTTON ON THE ROUTER!
  • If you have a 3rd WIU to connect to a 3rd TIU, repeat steps 2-5 above.
  • Select and open WiFi settings on the smart device.
  • Choose the MTH network generated by the first WIU from the smart device's list of wireless networks.

You can now access all TIUs via each TIU's WIU module. However, be aware that you are operating in Normal TIU mode, not Super TIU mode. The current, Standard version of the DCS App does not support Super TII mode.

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store!

Barry,

I put #2 WIU in the home mode and also reset it.  It came on but the wifi light did not come on.  the wifi light is on on #1 and #3 WIU devices.  the only lights on for #2 WIU are PWR and TIU.  I have the book and have re read what you have said above several times.

What am I not  doing?  Do I need to press the WPS on one of the WIUs?  if so which one? I know do now press the WPS on my router at all.

John

Do this:

  • Press the WPS button on the WIU that's in MTH mode.
  • As soon as its white WPS LED starts flashing, immediately press the WPS button on the new WIU.

So all was working well in WIU land and I recently downloaded the new version of the ap from the apple store.

I was running trains the other night when one of my trains, a ps-2 CTA "L" set took off like a bat out of hell with the speedometer buried to full.  the "E stop button did nothing on the ap.  3 ps-3 engines running at the same time were not effected.

Thoughts???

John
