New to the forum. Wanted to introduce myself and had a question as well.

Brad, 1st, welcome to the hobby and the best model train magazine and Forum in the world, in my opinion.

Like you, I am a huge lover of the smoke feature, and saw the same Legacy Camelback for the 1st time yesterday in the 2021 catalogue, was interested in it, and have never had a Legacy or whistle steam locomotive before.

Also, like you, I have a keen interest in what our Forum friends will say in response to your post. However, my experience with the smoke feature is that the default setting for smoke output is usually the maximum. Arnold

Actually, Legacy smoke only has three intensity levels.  I believe the LC application with BT does indeed just run at maximum, at least that's how it appears to me.  There is no intensity adjustment for smoke, just on or off.

I find the instructions for engine smoke usually limited. As you have read, on/off is about it.

Experience is the fun and learning function.  I usually keep the engine, steam or diesel input ports filled at 5 drops max at a time while engine is not operating. This practice keeps my interest up and the train room filled with a couple of trips around the main line.

Yes thank you coach joe. I read about that a while back luckily before I ran the smoke in a brand new 1999 K-line I found new in box a few months ago. I want to run the smoke so bad but I have managed to wisely not.....so far. I have a Lionel from 2014 or 2015 so I'm not too concerned about that one melting. Still haven't ran the smoke in that one yet though. Hearing its not going to be a good smoker anyway so will see.
