Something different for this week. No passenger trains, I switched to Freight. My video today showcases the CSX massive motive power hauling a long string of Lionel "Auto Racks".

Enjoy the video and have a great weekend.

Did you find you needed to add weight to those Lionel Auto Racks? I have 5 of them and they are so light they would derail when going around an 072 curve. If you did add weight, about how much per car?

Hey Vernon. Thanks for the question. Yes, these cars are light and seem top heavy. However, I have not added any weights to them and I have no problems. My layout is a minimum of 088 with a lot of 096 and even some 0104 (at Betty’s Diner) thrown in.

I make sure the whole coupler assembly is “free moving”. Some slight adjustments and just a tiny dab of plastic compatible grease helps to keep them rotating smoothly.

I would check out all you couplers to make sure none are binding. If not, than maybe some thin aluminum sheets laying in the bottom for weight and to lower the center of gravity. Hope that helps.

Very nice, Don!

Lots of this sort of action here in Michigan.

And...nice to see what could've been: A long string of the auto carriers without any graffiti!...

...not to mention the fresh-out-of-the-shop clean motive power!

Ah, the joys of model railroading!

Yep. For me, almost all of my equipment is shiny and clean. Just how I roll.

I will admit I have a few boxcars with graffiti from Lionel. You may see some on my next video.
