Hello,

I am new to using Gargraves track and I have some manual  O 42 switches.  Is there any special wiring that needs to be done to these so the engines don't stall in them?  I set up a test track with a three foot piece of Gargraves track and one of the Gargraves O 42 switches at the end of it.  The engine runs fine on the straight, but stalls at the switch.  Does the switch need power at all ends for the engine not to stall?   Any help you can provide is appreciated.

If not, here’s a little more information

on the bottom of the Turnout, there are metal staples..you can attach a wire to them so that the 3 center rails are common..this Turnout was done at the factory..but it’s easy to do yourself.

I use a wire from Cat 5 Telephone/Data cable..it solders easy…and doesn’t cause the Turnout to sit lopsided.

I see no easy way to do that on an 042 Gargraves turnout as it comes from Gargraves.

There are no brass jumper strips let alone ones with holes for staples to go through and any attempt at soldering to a staple will result in melted plastic.  I don't know what those insulators are two slots up from the Gargraves sticker (in your photo) and what is that hole in the center going to (where did that terminal for the jumper wire come from)?

The Turnout in that picture was just for guidance…to show where the rails were located.

The goal is to get all the center rails connected…

Another way is to solder directly to the rails. As I did in these pictures.

This is a manual Turnout that I converted in order to get non-derailing auto alignment…
