As many of you know, this past weekend was the O Scale Show in Indianapolis, IN. Jim Canter was the heart and soul behind this show for the past 15 years. Jim has now decided to pass this on to someone else. Amy and I here at the Model Rail Resource have taken the challenge, and are pleased to announce the new "Indianapolis O Scale & S Scale Midwest Show".
Since there is not currently a dedicated scale S show in the Midwest, we have decided to include the S Scale community.
Dates for next year's show will be September 22-23, 2017
The location will stay the same -- the Wyndham Indianapolis West

Much more information to come, so stay tuned!

Years ago I attended an O SCALE show that had a section for S SCALE vendors and both shows benefited from each other. I think I will try and make next years show as I have some really nice S SCALE that I will sell and spend the funds on O SCALE.

At the show it was said the S scale dealers would be in a seperate room, if that is correct, there will be the same amount of O scale dealers. I would like to see the show get a modular 2 rail layout in there. I have been told the gentleman that has the layout we used to see set up in the Indy area is dealing with some personal issues and its unknown if the layout will ever get set up again. Maybe someone that knows can see if he is willing to pass the flame and we try to find someone else to get that layout to a few shows. I would if I could, but its beyond my means right now. I would like to become active and have my own personal module though. Mike
Guess I would get another or room so as not to leave anyone out. There are many S Scale people in the area who just might like a true scale show. I guess we'll find out. O Scale West and S West have worked well together.
Please remember there is a difference between S SCALE and S gauge, the same thing as O SCALE and O gauge. At least with me SCALE means 2 rail.

Even traditional American Flyer is 2 rail...

While S does have it's Fall S Fests, Spring S Sprees and NASG conventions, they are predominantly Flyer events with some scale mixed in. We somehow manage to get along. Sometimes, someone even brings in a piece or two of O to sell and he is still welcome.

I am completely in support of them and wish them the best at growing the show. I congradulated them in person at the meet. Thats the best way, attend the meet, support the show with your attendance fees and the dealers with your purchases. I enjoyed the show and ran out of money before I ran out of items I wanted to purchase. All the best wishes and being that I live just an hour north of the show, if I can help in any small way, do not hesitate to message me. Mike
This show can only be improved; we'll be back next year.
I keep hoping to get to this show and a Strasburg show but it is quite along trip for me.

if you can make a modular layout happen, i am in! if you're thinking of the cantor/palz/harper layout, that is portable, not modular. modular means we can all build them and bring them together
i have 6 straight 4 foot modules ready to go. they are covered with p48 track now, and no scenery, but i would rip it all up and do ow5 if it meant others would join. i found out that 24 feet in o scale with #10 turnouts only gets you a 24 foot mainline with a 8 foot passing siding.
we showed them in Chicago a few years ago. zero people ran home to get started joining in.

I am thinking of the old unaffiliated O scalers layout. Last time it was set up according to Ron was at the Great Train Expo a year or so ago. Its a large modular 2 rail O scale layout. I am always open to starting a whole new set up as well. Just getting hard to do that, so few in the scale localy, let alone willing to get a new modular group going. Mike
Congrats Amy and Dan! Look forward to a fantastic show next year in Indy!
I have seen people us S scale and HO scale buildings to give a layout some depth perception.........see another reason to have some S SCALE dealers in the same building.
Since huge shows like Wheaton and York have VERY little O scale,, I am grateful for this show and am not about to get provincial about it.
O scale could use some of what S scalers have when you look at River Raisin models. No toy trains there.
Anyway, a rising tide lifts all boats. If it keeps the show going, I'm all for it.
Oh, and it was great to chat with Erik Stott this show. Sure wished some others would join in my interest in an SD45 in demo colors since he IS doing the L-shaped cab window version.
.....to chat with Erik Stott....
He had very little voice left by the time I got to talk to him, but it was interesting to hear the reality directly from the source.....
