How did we acquire the layout?

After the end of the show's run HBO was looking to junk the layout. They contacted

Lionel to see if they wanted it.  As it turns out one of our members (Mat Horning) was working for Lionel at the time

He found out about it and told them we would take it. The next day it was on truck to the NJ Hi-Railers.  When the layout arrived it was almost completely stripped and Lionel donated the necessary items to get it back up and running. The rest is history.

For perspective it is reported 10,000 people attended this event yesterday from far away as Australia.  All had big smiles as they approached the layout saying "look, there are Bobby's trains".  Most common question, "where is the  Blue Comet"  which they know from a scene in the show where Bobby meets his demise.  Many shared personal a connections to trains.  A great opportunity to promote the hobby and the club!
