I visited Paterson yesterday to catch up on a long-overdue installation. There is a tapered stack associated with the building so I decided to photograph it as a possible item to model. At the top was a very welcome visitor!!!

Cool!

That's cool! I'll have to watch for it myself! I had no idea they were indigenous to the area.

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember when they were endangered; now, at least here on the Coast, they are fairly common, usually being chased by flocks of smaller birds!
Saw one just yesterday, as a matter of fact. Always a thrilling sight.

They hunt the Passaic River that flows through the area.
(BTW, a couple of miles from the NJ HiRailers, is the Passaic River's "Great Falls" in Paterson…… an 80 ft waterfall system that was harnessed to power the industries there at the time, such as Rogers Locomotive Works)

C'mon Ben. We all know that there are no trees, meadows or waterfalls on Staten Island?!!!!
Happy New Year. Joe
Fwiw, I think this thread has gone to the birds.
There was a news item in the paper last summer about the Paterson Eagles (no, they're not a semipro football team).

The pics are in Paterson NJ The two steam locomotives are outside the Paterson museum. The Museum is the former site of the Rogers Locomotive works. Rogers was bought out by ALCO. The Steam engine I am standing in was the last one produced there It was a Panama Canal zone loco. The falls are directly across the street. Interesting history in that area. It was Alexander Hamilton that incorporated that area into an industrial zone using the river and falls to turn the wheels of all the mills. Our building was originally a silk mill
As for Staten Island it isnt called the borough of parks for nothing LOL
Larry Doby and Lou Abbott came from Paterson. The first submarine was developed by Holland during the Civil War. Colt patented his first revolver in 1835. The next time you visit the HiRailers, take 5 minutes and drive by City Hall.
