Well, I have been discussing the catalog situation with my Lionel contact this morning.  There has been an announcement that Lionel's new catalog is coming out on January 23rd.  I contacted him to see if the is going to be an American Flyer catalog and he said no.

In fact, Lionel is only doing 1 catalog for all products including Signature, Ready-To-Run, track & power, Christmas plus Flyer.   One can only guess if this is good for Flyer or not.

He gave me a long explanation, but the two key points was that it saved money and labor to develop the series of catalogs plus it exposed the market to all of Lionel's products in one catalog.

He said that the number of items in the Flyer group will be favorable to last year's catalog.  We will see next Tuesday.FB_IMG_1516156240605

Yea, maybe instead of the normal 25-35 flyer page count there is way less.  Maybe not.  Maybe this puts Flyer in front of more of a potential customer base. Maybe not.  Gunna have to wait and see.  I’m less concerned as they are combining everything into one, not just eliminating the separate flyer catalog.  Gunna be a thick book!

Sort of a moot point being that most Flyer guys couldn't care less about what the three rail offerings are.  Very few three railers care about Flyer too.  Very little cross-over.  However, every time I see them, it makes me sad.  But then, I'm done with Lionel.  I'm presently working on a project involving American Models components.  Much better made, more reliable, cheaper, and MADE HERE to boot!

It's just Lionel going full circle with Flyer. (Or is that chasing their tail???)

Since 1980, Flyer was always tucked away in somewhere in the O Gauge catalogs. (Except for the aborted SD40 announcement brochure in 1998.)

2012 was when the first separate modern Flyer catalog was released by Lionel.  So the separate catalog's had a 5 year run.

I'll be interested to see which way the wind is blowing with Flyer this year, but I suspect there won't be anything there to tickle my wallet.
